Held in Contempt Chapters 1-4
”He was guilty,” Tina said.
”Who did you piss off that you end up fighting the worst cases?”
”We all get our turns at the questionable verdicts,” Tina said. She wasn’t about to drag the dirty laundry of office politics out for Bette to examine.
”The prosecutor’s office can be a real old boys’ club,” Bette said. ”It’s different in defence. You can be a lot more choosy.”
”Said the spider to the fly,” Tina said.
Bette laughed.
”I was just about to ask if you wanted to join me for lunch,” Bette said. ”And I promise I’ll let you go home after only one…maybe two martinis. Come on Tina. Loosen up. I saw a glimpse of it yesterday. It was fun.”
”I’m working on the public dime,” Tina said. ”Always another case to prosecute.”
”Then how about dinner?” Bette asked.
”Dinner? You mean tonight?” Tina asked. Where was this conversation headed?
”If you give me your address, I’ll pick you up at seven,” Bette said. ”What area are you in?”
”West Hollywood,” Tina replied. This was really happening.
”That’s convenient,” Bette replied. ”Me too. Seven’s good for you?”
”It’s fine,” Tina replied. ”Where would you like to go?”
”My treat, my surprise,” Bette smiled. ”But jeans are fine if you’re wondering about dress code.”
Tina scrawled her address on a card she had in the pocket of her coat and passed it to Bette. Couple of colleagues going out for a meal. They had things in common. That’s all this was.
”Since I let your client off with such a light sentence today, a dinner is the least you can do for me.”
”Maybe I’ll think of something else I can do for you by the time our date is nearing its conclusion,” Bette said. She took a side step and headed up the aisle of the courtroom. She offered one last comment before reaching to grasp the ornate handle of the oak door that led to the hallway. ”And I like that I just made you blush.”
Tina held her hand to her cheek. Betrayed by a sudden rush of blood to the head.
And yes, undeniably, she had just made a date. With Bette Porter.
Chapter 2
”You’re not as uptight as I thought you were,” Bette said. ”But I can’t believe you propositioned me in front of the judge.”

Hi jks:
This is an excellent story, it is amazing, very well written, the plot is quite attractive and it hooks me up very easily, I haven’t read that story before, and even though you may post it with a different name, thank you so much for this gift.
P
The first chapter is close to the same as the first chapter of Amicus Curiae, but it diverges quite wildly from there. Completely different story, though the setting is the same. Thanks for reading!
Well, as I’ve said before, I love reading your stories and this is one is no exception.
As a retired lawyer (UK) I love the setting and the dialogue.
Thanks for posting. Keep those chapters coming and I’ll keep reading!
Hopefully I don’t make it too unbelievable for someone who actually has training as a lawyer! I do not, I only have my imagination, and sometimes it takes me to places for plot purposes that stretch what could possibly happen in the real world. Thanks for letting me know you’re out there reading.
This story is definitely familiar. So happy to see it back. Great writing love the story line.
A story that i defiantly recognize, but i still don’t know what your aliases are. But i think the site has just give me a clue, but to be sure i am gonna check it first.
I am happy that you have decided to post this story. Thank you for it.
Loved it. So glad you posted it again. Thanks
Great as usual. It does start off similarly to “Amicus Curiae” but then becomes quite unique. You still have that stellar gift of dialogue, snakiness and humor. Am anxious/excited for more.
I love your stories! I remember this one. Look forward to reading it.
Updating this story.
A beautiful story.
Whole universe.
