    Held in Contempt Chapters 1-4

Alice merely laughed at Tina’s response.

”I totally nailed it,” Alice said. ”’Many a true thing said in jest’ my dear – you were hitting on Bette Porter in front of the judge. THAT’S why you were speechless when she responded the way she did!”

”How can I be interested in her?” Tina argued. She already knew it was futile. She knew Alice was right. She’d been denying it for so long, but here, finally, someone had reached the same conclusion she had. ”She makes me so angry!”

”She brings out your passion,” Alice said. ”She makes you feel alive. She challenges you. And someone like you doesn’t get challenged very often. Can you imagine what that kind of attitude must be like when you’re in bed with her?”

Why yes, Tina could very much imagine that.

    ”Alice!”

”God you’re so easy to tease, I barely have to try,” Alice said. ”Get a settlement figured out or this trial is going to be torture for you.”

”Alright, I have to clear an offer before I can call her,” Tina acquiesced. She wanted the win. She didn’t want to have to give a deal. But Alice was right. For whatever reason, her office insisted on prosecuting some questionable cases. She might as well cut her losses.

”Then maybe you two can get together for a celebratory drink?” Alice suggested.

”I don’t want to have to deal with her,” Tina said. ”I’m not taking any more cases where she’s the defence attorney. Harvey can suck it if he thinks I’m going to be his pawn for every crap case he wants to haul into court.”

”That’s the Tina I know and love!” Alice said. ”Now put that offer together and make it happen.”

”Okay Al,” Tina said. ”By the way, I’m not interested in her.”

”Of course you’re not,” Alice said with a grin.

”I just need to make this case go away.”

    ”Absolutely.”

Tina wanted the case to go away. But what she didn’t want, was for Bette to go with it.

”I understand an agreement has been reached,” Judge Robinson spoke from the bench.

”Both sides have agreed on a plea bargain,” Tina replied.

”You’re both amenable to this deal?” the judge nodded towards Bette.

    1. Hi jks:
This is an excellent story, it is amazing, very well written, the plot is quite attractive and it hooks me up very easily, I haven’t read that story before, and even though you may post it with a different name, thank you so much for this gift.

      • The first chapter is close to the same as the first chapter of Amicus Curiae, but it diverges quite wildly from there. Completely different story, though the setting is the same. Thanks for reading!

    2. Well, as I’ve said before, I love reading your stories and this is one is no exception.

As a retired lawyer (UK) I love the setting and the dialogue.

Thanks for posting. Keep those chapters coming and I’ll keep reading!

      • Hopefully I don’t make it too unbelievable for someone who actually has training as a lawyer! I do not, I only have my imagination, and sometimes it takes me to places for plot purposes that stretch what could possibly happen in the real world. Thanks for letting me know you’re out there reading.

    3. A story that i defiantly recognize, but i still don’t know what your aliases are. But i think the site has just give me a clue, but to be sure i am gonna check it first.

I am happy that you have decided to post this story. Thank you for it.

    4. Great as usual. It does start off similarly to “Amicus Curiae” but then becomes quite unique. You still have that stellar gift of dialogue, snakiness and humor. Am anxious/excited for more.
