Christmas with the Kennards – Chapter 2

    Chapter 2

Alice trotted toward the front of the familiar Porter-Kennard residence with the spirit of Christmas clearly in the air.

“Chuck’s nuts roasting on an open fire,” Alice said as Dana stopped, yanking Alice’s arm to stop her progression.

    “What did you just say?”

    “You know, nuts…an open fire.”

    “Who is Chuck?  It’s chestnuts.”

Alice waived her hand in the air with a smile.  She turned and began to walk toward the door placing a green bow in her hair.

“I think he’s the guy she had a date with last night,” Shane said passing Dana on the driveway.  “Must not have gone well.”

“She needs to make up her mind.”

“She needs to stop with the holiday cheer,” Shane said seriously.  “Or for the first day of Christmas I’ll want someone to take someone away instead of giving me something.”

“She’s worse than eight maids a milking,” Dana said quietly.

“But with eight maids you might actually get laid, Dane,” Alice shot back as she placed a bow on top of Dana’s head.

Bette sat quietly at the kitchen table, the previous night’s events finally sinking in as she spotted the two airline tickets on the table next to her.  She held her mug of coffee in one hand while stirring cream into her coffee with the other.  She watched the healthy dose of cream turn the black coffee a lighter color and swirl with each pass of her spoon.

“Actions speak louder than words,” Bette muttered her old mantra as she pushed the tickets away and began to sip her coffee.  “How bad can it be really?  Just because we won’t have our traditional wanton week of nothing but sex, that doesn’t mean we can’t have a good time.”

Bette rolled her eyes at her flippant attempt at cheering herself up when she heard a noise outside her front door.  She held her mug tightly as she approached the door to look out the sidelight.

    “What the…”

Bette opened the door quickly startling both Alice and Dana.  Shane, however, seemed to be wrapped up in removing the green bow that Alice had stuck in her hair.

“Doesn’t that bow look cute?”  Alice asked with a smile.

    “What are you doing here?”

    1. If Tina was trying to butter up Bette before telling her about the gang going, she is in for a surprise. A little nookie and a lot of left out details spells trouble! but in time I’m sure Bette will get over it. PPS this is just too funny:)

    2. I was cracking up over Alice talking to Ma Kennard three times a week & now she’s changing her fashion style! LMAO. Bette just likes to play the role of scrooge but in the end, she’s a softie at heart. PS

    3. Just too funny. I just knew the entire gang was going to the Kennards for Christmas. I feel sorry for Bette and Tina should make a start on lots of loving before they leave for the holiday so that Bette will at least get some of her time with Tina and be able to enjoy the time away. Poor Bette. Great fun. PPS

    4. GUMBY!!!!!!!!!!! Lu and I really enjoyed this story, and hope that one day you and Jenny’s mom would tell your love story as well. We all know how that story would begin. With a blow-up doll. Hee-hee-hee!
