Christmas with the Kennards – Chapter 2

“Why would they be pitching in for gifts for your family?”

Tina ignored the question as she entered the clothing store and began to peruse the racks for James’s presents.  She held up one article after another, her eyes seeking Bette’s for approval.  After carefully choosing a few articles, she made her way toward the register and began to mentally calculate the cost of her purchase.

“We need to keep it as even as we can,” Tina said, on a mission to end her Christmas shopping.  “How much would a camera cost do you think?”

“A good one can be quite expensive,” Bette said watching Alice, Dana, and Shane pile on additional clothing to Tina’s already mountainous pile.

    “What are you doing?”

“Contributing,” Alice said handing Tina a $20 bill with a smile.

“What am I missing?” Bette asked as the sales associate began to engage Tina in a conversation about her purchases and the stringent return policy.

As Tina handed her credit card to the cashier, she leaned against Bette and sighed, already feeling overwhelmed with the crowds and the duty of holiday shopping.  She waited a brief moment, took her package with the gift for James, and headed toward the entrance of the store quickly.

“Mom would like something from that store,” Tina said pointing to a women’s clothing store across the way.

“That has old lady clothes,” Alice whined as she stepped in front of Tina to stop her from entering the store.  “Mom needs something better than that.”

    “What’s your suggestion?”

“Well she and I have been talking,” Alice started out carefully avoiding Tina’s gaze.

    “You talk to my Mom?”

“Oh at least 3 times a week,” Alice said with a smile.  “We’re trying to change her image a bit to be honest.  The elastic-pants have got to go!  I keep telling her that her shoes are having a party and they need to call her pants down!”

“You actually tell my Mom that?”

“She appreciates the honesty,” Alice said digging a piece of paper out of her back pocket.  “I have a few ideas for her that, if you hear me out, I think you’ll find are better choices for her new image.”

“This ought to be good,” Tina said folding her arms over her chest.

    1. If Tina was trying to butter up Bette before telling her about the gang going, she is in for a surprise. A little nookie and a lot of left out details spells trouble! but in time I’m sure Bette will get over it. PPS this is just too funny:)

    2. I was cracking up over Alice talking to Ma Kennard three times a week & now she’s changing her fashion style! LMAO. Bette just likes to play the role of scrooge but in the end, she’s a softie at heart. PS

    3. Just too funny. I just knew the entire gang was going to the Kennards for Christmas. I feel sorry for Bette and Tina should make a start on lots of loving before they leave for the holiday so that Bette will at least get some of her time with Tina and be able to enjoy the time away. Poor Bette. Great fun. PPS

    4. GUMBY!!!!!!!!!!! Lu and I really enjoyed this story, and hope that one day you and Jenny’s mom would tell your love story as well. We all know how that story would begin. With a blow-up doll. Hee-hee-hee!
