Dana was hoping with it being the middle of the night that they would be able to walk up the trail a little bit, find a flat area where they could see the lights, and enjoy the small picnic she had packed.

After finding a spot that she thought was perfect just slightly off the trail, she turned to Alice. “Al do you remember what day this is.”

At first, it didn’t hit Alice what was special about this day. But after thinking about it for a few seconds, it hit her like a ton of brick. “This is the night I kissed you three years ago, right?”

Dana smiled at Alice. “Yes this is the night you kissed me, then I kissed you, and then we kissed each other. Alice I know we have considered the night we got together to be our Anniversary but in so many ways I consider the night you kissed me to be the Anniversary of our relationship. Before that night, I would have never thought you had any other feelings toward me other then friendship. But that night opened up whole new side of our relationship. So from this night on I want us to think of this night as our Anniversary, let’s forget about my hesitation about breaking up with Tonya, and I hope you can forgive and forget about the time I decided I wanted to be like the old Shane. I want us to celebrate this day from this point on as when I feel in love with my best friend.”

Alice was truly smitten by what Dana had said, she never thought she could love her more then she did in the past, but this new Dana was more attentive, and open with her feelings. Alice felt like Dana really was repentant of all the pain she had caused, and this time was truly vested in the relationship. Alice knew she was once again opening her heart for the possibility of immense pain and suffering, but she couldn’t help it. She loved Dana and couldn’t see herself loving anyone else as much.

Alice just smiled at Dana. “I love you more then I loved you three years ago if that’s possible. Maybe we should remember our mistakes, it only serves to make us a stronger couple. But I forgave you a long time ago.”
