    Dear Diary—Chapter 1

”Love you too” Kit replied before driving off.

Bette sent a final wave at Kit then turned to look at her new home.

”Well. It’s not fancy but it will do” Bette muttered as she walked up the steps into her apartment building and went to the elevator hitting the 10th floor button.

As the elevator stopped at her floor, the doors opened and she made the short walk to her apartment stepping inside and closing the door. Looking around she decided to put the box labeled pictures and mementos in the hall closet. She picked up the box and carried it opening the door and sat the box on the top shelf. She pulled the string to turn on the light and noticed an entrance to the attic at the top.

Being curious, Bette grabbed her step ladder and pushed the entrance door away and climbed onto the top shelf to peak her head inside spotting a light switch on the floor. She flipped it on and choked at the dust she had just stirred up by doing so.

”Shit. There’s enough dust up here to kill somebody with asthma” Bette muttered as she looked around spotting a book of some sort to her right. She grabbed it and pulled it to her to get a good look and wiped the dust off with her hands choking in the process.

”Geez” She muttered as she turned the light off and climbed back down with the book.

Grabbing a damp cloth she wiped it off to reveal the leather binder and a lock signifying that it was a diary. Amused, she tried to open it to no avail. She walked to the kitchen and grabbed a knife out the box labeled silverware and pried it open.

She set the knife down and opened it to reveal a very neat handwriting and the first page dated August 21, 2001.

”Wow! 19 years ago” Bette muttered and began to read

    Dear Diary,

This is my first entry and I’m not sure why I am starting this but I feel I have to get my feelings out somehow. I’m 15 years old, awkward and shy, and don’t really have any friends here yet at my new school. Since my shyness pretty much keeps me from approaching people I keep to myself but there is this one girl I sit in a few classes with. She is beautiful and I find myself attracted to her. I haven’t had a boyfriend yet and I do like boys but this girl makes my heart race.
