Dear Diary—Chapter 2
”Excuse me? Ms Applewhite?”
”Yes” She replied as she turned her head around where she was sitting on the sofa and locked eyes with Bette. ”Who are you dear?”
”I’m Bette Porter. You don’t know me but I went to school with Tyler” Bette replied as Ms. Applewhite motioned her to come in.
Bette walked in shutting the door behind her.
”Have a seat dear over there in the chair so I can see you”
Bette nodded and sat in the chair facing Ms, Applewhite on the sofa.
”So you say you knew Tyler” She asked.
”Yes. Not well but we had a few classes together in high school. I’m sorry to hear about his passing” Bette said in compassionate tone
”Thank you dear. It never gets easier you know. As a parent, I was always prepared to go first. It wasn’t supposed to be this way. There is nothing more painful than losing a child” Ms Applewhite stated sadly as she sipped her tea and looked at Bette ”Oh. I’m sorry dear. Where are my manners? Would you like some tea?”
Bette smiled and shook her head.
”No thank you”
”Well what brings you by here to see me ?” Ms. Applewhite asked taking another sip of her tea
”I was wondering if you could tell me if Tyler ever brought a friend to your home. More specifically a girl when he was in high school” Bette said not wanting to mention the diary.
Ms. Applewhite went quiet in thought and eventually nodded her head not saying anything else and took a sip of her tea not elaborating any further
”Could you tell me her name by any chance?” Bette asked feeling her heart thumping against her chest in anticipation
”Hmmm.” She pauses staring off deep in thought and sighs turning her attention to Bette “Forgive me dear..I just can’t remember…Since I had my stroke it’s hard to remember and I get things mixed up”
“It’s ok”. Bette sighed in disappointment and decided she had taken up enough of the woman’s time and stood up from her chair.
”Thank you Ms. Applewhite for your time. You’ve been very helpful” Bette said as she walked over to shake her hand.
”You’re welcome dear. Come back anytime. I enjoy the company” Ms. Applewhite called out as Bette walked away from her and opened the door.
”I’ll do that. Bye Ms. Applewhite. Thanks again” Bette said as she walked out closing the door behind her
”Damn…That didn’t get me anywhere but what a sweet lady” Bette mumbled to herself as she made her way to her car.

Bette is very confident…. personally, I am too clumsy to try to read a book in a bathtub full of water. I would drop it and it would be ruined… and there is no replacement for that diary.
Too bad Ms. Applewhite does not remember… but maybe she will later. As we get older, that is the way a mind works… you know that you know something like a name and it takes several hours for the brain to bring that file up and suddenly you will sit up in bed and the name will suddenly be the only thing you can think of. Its just a few hours after you really needed that information….
Thanks for the chapter… keep it coming.
