Dear Diary—Chapter 2
”Steve Sykes”
”Steve….It’s Tina”
”Hey Kennard. You are getting an early start. I guess all the lives you have bled dry this year has caused a spontaneous combustion in your bank account and Uncle Sam is salivating” Steve snickered
”In your dreams Sykes. If that were the case you would have retired already because I would have made your ass rich crunching all the numbers. But that’s not why I’m calling” Tina replied twirling her hair between her fingers.
”Well then spill it so I can get back to my sausage biscuit” Steve prompted
Tina rolled her eyes
”I have a client that is a CPA looking for work. I know you need help Steve. You have complained for years of needing help but you are too much of a tight ass to pay someone. I vouch for her. You know I wouldn’t recommend her to you if I didn’t think she was capable. And she’s more than capable” Tina explained hoping she didn’t have to beg.
”Hmmm. I’ve known you a long time Tina. I know you wouldn’t send me anyone you didn’t trust. What the hell. I mean I have been wanting to lighten my account load and take more time for myself and my family so I would be glad to get her in for an interview. What’s her name?” Steve asked
”Bette Porter. I’ll text you her info. You won’t regret it” Tina smiled
”I’m sure I won’t. I’ll give her a call” Steve agreed
”Thanks so much Sykes. Let me know how it goes” Tina replied as she hung up the phone and let out a sigh still twirling her hair between her fingers.

After returning from Mr. Powell’s office armed with an address for Ms. Lori Applewhite, Bette felt like she was going to burst. Maybe now she could finally get a name to the author of the diary. As she was grabbing her keys to head down to her car her cellphone rang. She looked at it perplexed not recognizing the number. Curious as to who it was she answered anyway
”Hello?”
”Is this Bette Porter?”
”Yes it is. Who is this?”
”My name is Steve Sykes. I own Sykes CPA firm and Tina Kennard recommended you. Are you still looking for a job?” Steve asked

Bette is very confident…. personally, I am too clumsy to try to read a book in a bathtub full of water. I would drop it and it would be ruined… and there is no replacement for that diary.
Too bad Ms. Applewhite does not remember… but maybe she will later. As we get older, that is the way a mind works… you know that you know something like a name and it takes several hours for the brain to bring that file up and suddenly you will sit up in bed and the name will suddenly be the only thing you can think of. Its just a few hours after you really needed that information….
Thanks for the chapter… keep it coming.
Thanks for posting again so quickly. Enjoying recalling the story and look forward to more.
