Bette smiled warmly at the antics of her former wife who was smiling away as she enjoyed their breakfast. It felt good to be spending some time with Tina again. These were the moments she had missed the most, just sitting around the house doing simple everyday things. She realized that some of her most favorite moments were spend with Tina in the kitchen.

Just as they were settling into enjoying their breakfast, Tina’s cell phone went off in the living room and she excused herself to get it.

“Hello?”

“Tina? Where the hell are you? What is going on?! I have been worried sick of not knowing where you are. You haven’t been answering your phone since yesterday and…” came the loud chiding from Kathy

“Kathy calm down. I am okay. There is nothing to worry about. I am still in New York okay. Uh.. something important came up.” Tina wasn’t sure she should tell her friend the reason for her being AWOL right now.

“What do you mean something came up? Why are you still in New York? What are you working on and why wasn’t I informed about it?” Kathy ranted some more

Always the petulant drama queen. Tina sighed loudly.

“Kathy, its nothing okay. Its….its not about work..…just….just something personal I have to take care of which I don’t think I have to tell you everything about either. We are friends remember. You are not my mother.”

“But Tina, what was so important that you had to miss an important board meeting? I never thought you could be so careless.”

“Kathy please…stop being so difficult. You know I don’t ever take my work casually and it’s not like you can’t take care of a board meeting without me for once.” Tina pleaded. She was very hurt that Kathy would accuse her of being unprofessional about her responsibilities towards the company. She already felt a headache coming on and ruining her morning with Bette.

“Tina, just tell me something.”

“What?!” This interrogation was getting on Tina nerves now. She just wanted to end the call and go back to being happy with Bette. Her frustration was apparent on her face.

“Is she the reason?”

The question caught Tina off guard. She was not expecting Kathy to catch on to it. It took her a minute to compose herself. But Kathy caught onto that hesitation.

“What are you talking about Kathy?”

“Just tell me the truth Tina. Is she?”

Tina remained silent. When Tina didn’t say anything in return Kathy continued. Her suspicions coming true.

“I knew it! What the hell are you thinking Tina?”

“Frankly it’s none of your business Kathy.”

“Don’t do it Tina. I am warning you she is not worth it. You are going to regret it later on.”

“Goodbye Kathy.”

This conversation was over as far as Tina was concerned.

“Tina, listen to me…” But the phone had already gone dead before Kathy could finish her sentence.

Kathy was fuming. How could Tina just end the call while she was still talking?

“You don’t know what you are getting yourself into Tina. I will not let you make the same mistake again Tina not while I am still here.”
