    Forged in Fire: Chapter 14

“I first met Sidney on the campus of UCLA during our freshman year. We met at one of the on-campus meetings for the undergraduate LGBT organization and we clicked at once. Sidney was beautiful and brilliant at our first meeting. I came to realize that those qualities were not fleeting displays, but essential aspects of her person…”

Bette spoke warmly about their life, the opening of The Porter Gallery, and the selflessness of Sidney’s organ donations. She read the stories on the plaque, emphasizing the impact her ex-wife had on the lives of the recipients. There would be paperwork and addressed envelopes at the reception for anyone interested in donating their organs.

As she finished her speech, Bette looked out once again at the audience. Her father was there, looking appropriately mournful. He sat next to Patricia, who sat beside Dylan. Alice, Tasha, and Max sat next to him, all on the second pew. James, his girlfriend Quinn, and Maxwell were seated on the row behind them. It was of great comfort to her to see them all; her closest friends and family. Her eyes welled with tears as she closed her remarks and made her way back to the first pew. She hugged Sidney’s parents tightly before taking her seat.

“That was beautiful,” Jackie Davis whispered.

Bette was glad she had been able to give them a loving and memorable farewell to Sidney.

When she sat back down, Tina’s arm was instantly around her, holding her close. Tina kissed her forehead and Kit squeezed her hand. Bette exhaled, letting the adrenaline finally fade away from her. She felt damp and sticky, but she actually felt good and finally felt whole. This closure had been important for her. More than she’d realized.

After the service inside the church, they released 34 white doves; one for every year of Sidney’s life. The sight of the beautiful birds caused a wave of delightful whimsy in the mourners and it was with this beauty and a much-needed hint of levity that the reception began at the church. A slideshow of Sidney’s work was shown on a large screen, serving as the backdrop for the gathering.

As the event neared its end, Bette hugged Sidney’s immediate family once more before bidding them a teary farewell and heading back to the hotel with her girlfriend and the other members of their framily. Everyone had agreed to gather in the large suite Bette & Tina had rented. Tina and Max had pulled together more snacks and a wet bar. There was soft music playing in the background and Dylan was getting ready to play cards with his aunts.

    1. Thank you for the chapter!

So, Tina’s work is still in suspended, interesting how it could be solved.

And Bette – sometimes she still little girl when she close to her father. Good that Tina was there to protect her.

    2. Thank you, MTS, you definitely found the perfect solution for Tina. Be there for Bette. Everything else can wait. And she needed Tina so much. Loved how in the church Bette’s eyes were looking for Tina’s to find strength there.

I’m curious to see what will change for Bette now that she found closure. Will she be more sure of Tina’s love? Will she be able to make serious plans for their future?

And then – drum roll – Jedi Master Tina strikes again: points for giving Melvin a roasting! I’m sure he didn’t know what hit him. Melvin, that sorry excuse for a father. I love it when Protective-Alpha-Tina comes out to play.

Thank you for that second posting, MTS. You’ve taken good care of B + T in this crucial moment of their relationship. Now I can put my mind to rest, leave Tina and Bette alone for the night and go to sleep ;-)

      Enjoy your Sunday, stay safe

    3. Thanks for returning quickly for this and also for writing a chapter where I am able to hate Melvin once more! Keep reading stories where he’s nice,

Seriously thank you for continuing with this story and can I request that Tina now kicks some ass!

      Stay safe

    4. Tina chose Bette over work….excellent. My bets are that David will not fire her. He definitely has too much to lose.

I cannot believe that Melvin was such an asshole. Does he not know that addiction is a disease not a weakness. They fact is that the real strength comes in the form of resisting that what you are addicted to when every fiber of your being is telling you to partake. And the fact is that the tendency to be an addict is inherited.. Since Bette and Kit share the same father but not the same mom, it would lead one to believe that Melvin is responsible for their addiction in that he pass the gene to them. He should be proud of his daughters in that they have faced their addiction and have taken steps not to be controlled by it. Chastising his adult daughter does not help anyone.

Thanks for this chapter…. I want to see how David responds on Monday morning.

      Look forward to more…..

      • Melvin is definitely a rigid man who greatly lacks emotional intelligence. And you are right…the apple of addiction usually doesn’t fall too far from the addict-apple-tree.

Looking forward to see if Tina’s boss will chill out.

    5. Wow lots of 0f ups and downs in last few chapters. Sounds like Kit’s mom had the best voice of soothing. Tina was protective but I feel Tina should have came earlier or Bette should have walked out the second she heard his tone change.. Great chapter thank you.

      • BnT! Yes…Kit’s mom is a calming voice of reason. She’s had many years to try and sugar coat Melvin’s BS for her daughter. So she’s the mistress of good news and soft landings. (just made those words up together…i hope it sounds good).

And yes…Bette should have walked out or at least, defended herself. But that’s what happens a lot in toxic parent-child relationships. People revert. Or even if they’re not toxic.

Like…I’m a grown ass woman…but I’m home with my family on Easter…I’m getting an Easter basket.

        • So she’s the mistress of good news and soft landings.
Nice!.. lol I believe mistress have soft landings lol but not all have good news ????????????

Easter basket huh.. you like that chocolate bunny?.. your like my daughter still wishes for all those little things from childhood. There soothing. I dont really reminder any comfy things from childhood to really want now. But I’m glad my daughter does. Thank you and stay safe my friend.
