Forged in Fire: Chapter 23

Tina could feel a tiny tremor in Bette’s jaw. She brought one of the honeyed hands to her lips and kissed the fingers. “Shh…it’s okay. Don’t cry,” Tina whispered.
Bette’s voice was hoarse and hushed when she spoke. They were still wrapped together, still gazing outside the window.
“Do you love me?” she asked.
Tina nodded and kissed the honeyed fingers once more. “More than anything. More than I ever knew I could love another person.”
Bette’s husky voice spoke again. “Will you do me a favor, T?”
“What is it?”
Bette nodded toward the candle in front of them on the little windowsill. “Can you check that candle? It doesn’t look right.”
Tina moved automatically, not paying much attention to anything but the melodic timbre of her lover’s tone. When she looked at the candle, she was surprised. It wasn’t real. It had a fake flame. Yet it glinted oddly. She looked closer, her eyes drawn to the source of the flicker of light and saw the band of silver and setting with a princess cut stone. Tina picked it up and looked at it before turning back to face Bette.
The gallery owner with the polished professional persona; the woman that had traveled the world and who never cowered, was now trembling with nervousness as she stood before the love of her life. She held out her palm and Tina placed the ring into her outstretched hand.
Tina’s throat was now dry, her eyes watering, her heart pounding loudly in her ears.
“Tina,” Bette said softly.
“I never want to be apart from you. You have made my life both beautiful and meaningful. You’re my first thought when I arise and my last thought before I drift off to sleep. I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
“You are the other half of my soul.
“Will you marry me?”
If someone had asked her how she moved from standing before Bette to crushing her in a tight embrace, Tina could not have answered. But that’s exactly what happened. She lunged at Bette and held her close, nearly suffocating the woman she loved.
Tears were freely flowing from her eyes and she finally pulled back and looked into Bette’s dark brown pools. The honeyed fingers were wiping away Tina’s salty streams and the blonde whispered, through her trembling voice, “Yes, I will marry you.”

This is a special chapter. Very romantic and very special. Tina is growing in her understanding of Bette. And that is good to see. Tina goes from being pissed off which she seldom has been with Bette, to being total captivated by her love and soul. They are truly soul mates. And this dinner was wonderful and they almost got distracted. But in the end, Bette and Tina are now engaged. I am so happy for them.
So….the introduction which was a recount of Tina’s relationship with her Kennard family; what did that have to do with this chapter? Perhaps I missed it. I shall reread it again.
Thank you for this lovely episode in the life of Bette and Tina. I love the retelling of the Greek mythology. It is so Bette ! Truly a great experience for me as a reader…
Thank you for your chapter…. love when you publish.
I absolutely loved Bette telling the story of soul mates to Tina prior to the proposal. Talk about being deep off your feet! Guess the retelling of Papa Kennard and crew is paving the way for Tina taking the rest of them down as promised.
Thank you for the chapter!
It was a great trick from Bette – perfect date. Tina agreed and it also allow her dodged a bullet from Tina’s anger about all business Bette with her boss.
And i like story about soulmates as well.
Thank you so much for this chapter I enjoyed it in it’s entirety !
More please, as soon as possible :-)

First of all this. Chapter is a “Masterpiece” I loved it.. from the first step into the dining room I knew this was the night. It was beautifully described the whole way through. Thank you.????
Yes women can be pussy whiped in one since but on her back no.. ????
“Hon” slipped from pam’s lips ????
Oh and the death words.. “I’m fine” my wife hates it when I say that.. she usually steps back. Bette apparently wasn’t acquainted in the finer points of what not to do when hearing those two word come out of her womans mouth. Lol
And lastly have you been watching someone drink wine lately?????
A double posting again? You are too good to us, MTS. Thanks a lot! After doing my usual weekend chores I started reading.
An engagement! I’m so happy. T + B feeling secure enough in their love to make a commitment. Beautiful proposal. Thank you for reminding me of Platon respectively Aristophanes.
It was to be expected that Bette’s “talk” with Davis came out sooner or later. But I didn’t expect Tina’s reaction at all. Angry or pissed Tina I did expect but the way you had her going through the emotions was something else. At first giving Bette the (nearly) silent treatment and then listening to her soul, banishing the anger and disappointment that had poisoned her heart for a moment. So good!
But I’m curious what will come out of her interview. Will she tell Bette before it gets published? Whatever she told and put in motion with it, she shouldn’t have made that decision on her own. Everything she does will effect her soon to be wife in one way or another.
Thank you, MTS, for the double treat. Enjoy your weekend, stay strong
