    Frozen Beginnings – Chapter One

This was it, she thought for a split second. This was the way she was going to die. There was no way she could stand, let alone manage to put her ski back on and continue down the slope. She would never find her lost ski again anyway. The falling snow had probably covered it by now.

Balling a fist, she punched the powdery snow and clambered back onto her feet best she could using her batons. This could not be it, this would not be it, she rowed with herself. Clenching her teeth to try and ignore the burning pain in her left ankle when she managed to get back onto her feet after discarding her one remaining ski, she hobbled back up the slope to try and reach the thick trees she had been aiming for.

Her makeshift crutches did a half descent job and she reached the sheltered area. She had been right; the evergreens were so thick the falling snow was having a hard time penetrating the canopy. She entered into the thicket hoping the further in she would progress the more she would find shelter even from the wind.

It took a moment or so for her eyes to adjust to the darker surroundings – snow was no longer reflecting what little light the moon was offering – when she saw a faint light in the distance. She swallowed thickly hoping against all hope that this was a sign of sanctuary.

Her progress was slow but her stride was still as determined and her mind reeled a plethora of thoughts and resolutions. There was a lot to be said when someone was facing their own possible demise that resolutions were sworn upon so much quicker and everything would change if ever they managed to make it through.

Inwardly, Tina was doing just so as she limped her way towards the light. The irony of the situation did not escape her either as she muttered under her breath.

“No more easy living for me….. no more travel just because the notion takes me… with my rich friend or my so-called boyfriend… no more spending daddy’s money…even if he maintains he doesn’t mind… goodbye Eric….goodbye men actually.” She smirked at that last thought. Had she ever been that interested in men or was it just because it was what was expected of a young woman? Maybe she ought to do something about this too whilst she was there making plans for the new life she was putting together for herself.

She stopped for a second to catch her breath. Her foot throbbed and she could feel her heartbeat pound inside her ski boot. Her discomfort was increasing rapidly and her boot felt very tight. Her ankle had no doubt swollen and probably looked like a melon by now.

She lifted her head from her footwear and realised that the light she had been headed towards seem to come from a little wooden chalet. She struggled over the last stretch and on closer inspection realised she had been right. The curtains were drawn and this coupled with the light was a sure sign that the chalet was inhabited.

With one last supreme effort she hammered on the door and collapsed with exhaustion.

    3. Well, Kins, so wonderful to see you again. You’ve been on my mind lately, must be I heard you writing thru the ethers. A wonderful beginning to a Kins saga and I can’t wait to read more.

Have to say I always enjoyed downhill skiing but never to the risk of going outside the ropes. I love the swooshing thru the powder snow for the thrill it gives when timing it perfectly with the mountain side. Sounds like Tina does similar. Funny how life catches up to us when we’re not on the right path nor truly listening to our heart. Surprisingly those bumps and hurdles appear to guide us in the right direction most generally in the right time, too! So it makes me wonder, who would be living on the side of a mountain in a little chalet at this time of the year? Was it the Universe guiding Tina in that direction with an avalanche or two? Hmmmm, I wonder…

SO excited to see you again friend! And excited for another good story from you. So, I shall put another log on the fire, refill my coffee mug and sit back and listen with a beaming smile on my face. :o))

      • I have heard so much about from you Bumsue, who tells me frequently that she has read everything you have written and wished that you would return. Delighted you have! I enjoyed your story and its auspiciously constructed beginnings.

Presently, I’m having a go at my L Word inspired version of Season 7 in a photo illustrated book titled, Touch Tone. I will be delighted to have your comments on my storyline when you have time. My first chapter, After Midnight is here: http://bit.ly/tina-kennard on LesFan. It follows immediately after Bette proposing to Tina in the Chapter titled, Malibu, found here. http://bit.ly/1qT8rKJ on LesFan.
