    Heartbeat – Chapter 13

“Maybe in the beginning we were getting along, but the last few months. We barely saw each other. I should never have asked her to marry me. I thought getting married would fix the problem.” Bette glanced at her sister. “I was the problem. All she ever did was love me, but I couldn’t quite give all of me to her.”

    “Bette…”

“No Kit. I know what you’re going to say. I tried moving on. I really did. You saw me with those other women, but Tina…she’s a part me that I couldn’t let go." Bette paused, her throat tightening. "No matter how hard I tried to move on she was always with me.” Bette placed her hand over her heart. “Deep down in my heart she was always here.”

“Oh Bette,” Kit took Bette in her arms. “I remember how hard it was for you. It must have been hard for her to leave you. I remember how you loved each other." Kit held Bette at arms lenght. "Do you remember the time you came over to my place? You and Tina were trying to get pregnant and I told you that you only let people see what you want them to see.”

Bette sat back down and rested her back against the couch. “I remember.”

“Can you say that you were forthcoming with Tina about how you were feeling?”

“No.” Bette admitted to her sister.

“I’m not going to tell you how to live your life. You are a grown woman and it is not my place to tell you who you should and shouldn’t see, but you need to remember that you are still married and if Tina is the one you want to be with, then take this time to get to know each other again and after that time you and she still feel the same about each other, then I’m all for it.” Kit didn’t reveal to Bette that Tina was still in love with her.

“I will. Do you want to know something? When I was lying on the tracks I really thought that was it…” Bette let out a breath. “It was Tina I called out for. There I was…feeling like I was dying and it was her that I was thinking about. Is that crazy or what? When I saw her in the emergency room, I thought for sure that I was either dead or dreaming. I mean, there was no way…no way did I think I was would see her in there and there she was treating me. I swear to you Kit, I wanted to jump out of that gurney and just hold her and never let her go.” Bette turned to her sister. “And the she came back with Andrea in tow.”

    1. Great update! Bette should spend the night with Tina, not Kit. Especially since it is something they both want. And no one, not anyone else can say “come here” quite like Tina. Hopefully Laurel has found someone in her private life to say that phrase to as much as possible. Happy Thanksgiving!
