    Heartbeat – Chapter 13

“What?! I wish I had been there to see it.” Kit tried to stifle a chuckle.

“Don’t laugh Kit. To say that it was awkward was an understatement. Seeing them together, I never realized how much Andrea looked like her. It was shocking.”

    “I tried to tell you…”

“I know Kit,” Bette interrupted. “You tried to tell me how much Andrea looked like Tina. Alice tried to tell me. Dana tried to tell me…and well Shane, she figured I knew what I was doing.”

    “How did that go?”

“Andrea said she finally came face-to-face with the ghost that she was competing against and I told her that there was never a ghost, but in the end I guess I knew she was right. Andrea’s in L.A. following her dream job at Shaolin Films. She left right after I was moved to my room. She told me to go after my second chance.” Bette gave her sister a small smile. “Even though she was hurting, she told me to see if there’s anything left with Tina. I hope Andrea finds the person who deserves her.”

“Me too.” Kit stood. “This old body of mine is tired, baby sis. You coming?” Kit walked toward the other bedroom.

“I’m going to change,  but you go to bed Kit. I’m just going to stay here a little while longer.”

    “Okay then, goodnight.”

“Goodnight, Kit.” Bette watched her sister close the door as she made her way to the bathroom. Once changed she walked back to the living room and poured herself some scotch. She swirled the amber liquid in the glass before sipping it. She walked over to the set of windows and looked down at the lights below.

Tina stood transfixed at the entrance of the living room as Bette made her to the windows. What was is about this woman? She gave her heart to the brunette sixteen years before and the brunette still had it. She stepped in the living room just as Bette was raising the glass to her mouth. “Hi,” she said softly, not wanting to surprise the brunette. She made her way to Bette and stood next to her at the windows. “How come you’re not asleep yet?”

“I could ask you the same thing.” Bette took a sip of the amber liquid. “Want some?” She offered the glass to the blonde.

Tina accepted the glass Bette offered and placed her lips at the same spot Bette’s mouth had touched earlier.

Bette swallowed as she watched Tina place her mouth where hers had been only moments ago. She watched Tina slowly drink from the glass. Bette felt her face getting flush.

Tina sipped the liquid and let it linger in her mouth before swallowing it. The liquid warmed her throat and other places not touched by the amber liquid. “That’s good,” she admitted before handing the glass back to Bette.

Bette took the glass. She paused and turned the glass to where Tina had left her lipstick mark, never once breaking contact with the blonde woman standing before her, she placed her lips on the mark and sipped once again.

A drop of the amber liquid escaped the brunette’s mouth. Before Bette could wipe away the liquid, Tina reached out. She cupped Bette’s jaw and used the pad of her thumb to capture the liquid at the corner Bette’s mouth. The droplet made its way onto Tina’s thumb.

Bette’s heart beat hard against her chest. Bette took Tina’s wrist. She looked at the drop of amber on Tina’s thumb and watched as it made its way to the base of the thumb. She brought the thumb to her mouth and twirled her tongue around the digit and sucked lightly before releasing it. “That is good.” She smiled in agreement.

Tina released a breath she didn’t know she was holding. Her heartbeats were pounding loudly in her ears. The two women breathed in the scent of the amber liquid. Tina glanced at Bette’s mouth and looked her in the eye before glancing back at Bette’s mouth, her lips wet. She cupped the back of Bette’s head before whispering, “Come here.”

    1. Great update! Bette should spend the night with Tina, not Kit. Especially since it is something they both want. And no one, not anyone else can say “come here” quite like Tina. Hopefully Laurel has found someone in her private life to say that phrase to as much as possible. Happy Thanksgiving!
