I Need My Best Friend – Part 15

‘I’m so sorry Bette.  I don’t know what got into me.  All I wanted was some time with you.  I know we aren’t ready to be intimate.’

‘What’s going on Tina you’ve been different all day.’

    ‘Nothing.’

‘Don’t shut me out, how can we work through this if we keep shutting each other out?’

‘When you kissed me the way I felt scared me to death.  I can’t watch you move on without me anymore than you can watch me.  I can’t stand the last memory of us together being that night and what we did to each other.  I decided to sleep with you so I could get that out of my head.  I never thought you would reject me.’

‘Tina! I’m not rejecting you.  I can’t bear the thought of losing you, but I can’t imagine making love to you and then losing you all over again.’

‘I heard you with James telling him he wouldn’t have to move and then I saw the list from Peggy.  I thought you had decided to leave so I thought at least I would have this weekend.’

‘So that’s why you asked if I was keeping anything from you.  When I met Peggy in Chicago she wanted to know how things were going with us.  She offered me a place to stay if things didn’t work out and I needed to get away.  I should have told you about it.’

‘Do we have to leave in the morning?’

‘Not if you still want to stay.’

‘I want to stay.  Maybe trying to put everything aside wasn’t such a good idea.’

‘Did you make any plans for tomorrow?’

‘I thought a picnic might be nice.’

‘That does sound nice.  So, let’s just see where tomorrow takes us.  If we feel like talking we will, if not we’ll just enjoy the day, but no more shutting each other out.’

‘I’m really tired.  I didn’t sleep much last night.  I don’t want you to stay in the other room, are you ready for bed?’

Bette pulls Tina to her, ‘come here you’ and softly kisses her.  ‘Do you think you can keep your hands to yourself?’

    ‘Don’t start with me Porter, payback’s a *****.’

    8. Hi, I just want to add that I enjoy every bit of the story and that it leave me very ‘drained’ as well coz I feel for both Bette n Tina – in fact, I cried in one of the chapters. Keep up the good work. You write beautifully – the one request I have – pls have a good ending – let Bette ‘alive’ again and Tina to ‘live’ – you know what I mean
