I Need My Best Friend – Part 6

‘You mean I wasn’t speaking to you?  You really thought about leaving?’

    ‘No.  I thought about running.’

‘I’m glad you didn’t.  What did you mean you haven’t given Peggy an answer yet?’

‘She offered me a job.  Gina quit after Peggy gave me Provocations.’

‘Are you going to do it?’

‘I don’t know.  I really wanted to talk to you about it.’

‘You don’t have to talk to me’

‘That’s what I was afraid you would say.’

‘Don’t interrupt.  I was trying to say you don’t have to talk to me if that’s what will make you happy.  I just want you to be happy again.’

‘I don’t think I’ll ever truly be happy without you.’

‘Well, if we keep jumping to conclusions we aren’t ever going to get there!  I’m sorry Bette.  I shouldn’t have assumed you would just leave and you shouldn’t assume you know how I’ll respond.  Now, what are you going to tell Peggy?’

‘Do you think we could talk about it when you get back?  I’d like to tell you all about it and I’d like to know what you think.’

‘I’d like that.  We’ve probably talked enough for today anyway.’

‘Oh no you don’t Kennard!  You are not getting out of this.  We each had to pick a topic for today.’

    ‘I pick Paris.’

‘Nice try, but I don’t think so.’

‘The questions I want to ask the most have the answers I’m most afraid of.  I’m just not ready.  I’m sorry.’

‘It’s all right.  I’ve hurt you enough for a lifetime; I don’t want to say anything that will hurt you any more.  Maybe we have talked enough.  You can save your turn for another time.’

    ‘You sound disappointed.’

‘It’s just that as long as we’re talking you’re here and I’m going to miss you.  I won’t see you all week.’

‘We can still talk.  I’ll call you at night when I get back to my room.’

    ‘I’d like that.’

    ‘Walk me to my car?’

    ‘Absolutely.’

As they walked to the car Tina tried to convince Bette to see the girls while she was away.

‘I’m just a little nervous, so much time has passed.’

‘Bette, it’s not going to get any easier.  You need to do this.  They miss you.’

    ‘I miss them too.’

‘Then promise me you’ll do it.’

‘I will, I’ll call them this week.’

‘I’ll try to call you before I leave tomorrow afternoon, if I can’t I’ll call you when I get in tomorrow night.’

‘This is awkward.  Not knowing if it’s all right to hug you good bye.’

‘I think we can do that.’

They stood there holding on to each other, neither one wanting to be the first to let go, knowing they had come so far, neither one quite sure where this was taking them.

    1. glad to see you back+-AI least they are talking, and not yelling and screaming at each other,.great storypllease don’t wait sd long to write again, thanks

    2. Hey..You’re Back!! I have been eagerly waiting for your new chapter and couldn’t help but smile when I saw you posted a new one today! I really love your story and the conversations that Bette&Tina are having are so realistic and beautiful..it will take a while to heal but I hope they will find each other in the end..and asalways, as long as you write ’em..I will faithfully read ’em..I’m already hooked!..do much appreciate you taking the time to share this with us..

    3. Hey, welcome back! Nice to read your stories again. It’s a good approach to explore. I love the conversations they have. It’s still dramatic but it’s not melodramatic. Still moving and the friendship they have shines through though can’t forget the fact that they’re not meant to be just friends. waiting for the next…

    4. This is more realistic to me than the stories that have B&T splitting up. Of all the people I have seen deal with infidelity in their marriage, it is the couples that truly love each other that try to make the relationship work. They go through all possibilities in order not to leave any ‘what ifs’ lurking out there. Of the ones that have taken the aforementioned route, all the marriages have survived. You are doing a fantastic job with this story. Keep up the great work. I like the honesty between these two.

    5. hey! nice to have you here again… Good one… Bette was so sweet with Tina seven years ago… and tina has forgiven bette… really good… what’s gonna be tina’s question? surprise surprise…

    6. This is great. It’s good how they are talking like mature woman and clearing the air instead of holding it in when they don’t know the facts.

    7. Great great great, like Bete said ‘Why couldn’t I have just talked to you instead of cheating on you?’ good question but if you didn’t we never got a chance to read this Story

    8. As Always this was a wonderful chapter. They seem to be moving closer to finding each other again. Please keep writing. I look forward to reading each new chapter.

    9. I’m so happy you didn’t chuck this story! It is so realistic…how I imagine 2 people who love each other find their way back. I am so enjoying this please go on…soon!

    10. Tina jumps to conclusions as quickly as Bette does. They are both so afraid of losing each other. Wonderful writing if u ever read these comments; I just wanted u to know.
