I Need My Best Friend – Part 6

Tina went to the room they had set up as an office and closed the door.  She really needed to pull herself together.  She wanted more than anything to make things work with Bette, but they still had so much they hadn’t talked about.  She knew she should have told Bette that she had forgiven her she just hadn’t gotten past the hurt.  She just wasn’t ready for that conversation.

She needed to decide what she wanted to talk about.  She knew Bette would probably ask when she went back outside.  Every time she thought she had decided on something she would remember their agreement not to ask if they weren’t ready to hear the answer.  Maybe she should make some notes things she should try to avoid.

She opened the desk drawer and couldn’t believe her eyes, Bette’s letter of resignation to the CAC.  She couldn’t believe she hadn’t known how unhappy Bette was.  She picked it up and underneath was a letter from a gallery in Paris, a job offer.  Bette was moving to Paris.

Bette was hoping to talk to Tina about the job offer she got from Peggy Peabody.  She knew she would be happier working for her than at the CAC.  She was afraid Tina might tell her she didn’t need to discuss her decisions with her anymore.

Peggy had been right; she had received several job offers since Provocations.  She had even received one from Paris.  She briefly entertained the thought of running away to Paris when she didn’t think Tina was ever going to speak to her again.  Briefly!  She could never be that far away from Tina even if they weren’t together.

Tina wasn’t sure how long she had been sitting there, staring at the job offer Bette had received.  It was dated the week after Provocations had opened.  Bette got this before they had started to talk again.  Why did Bette say she wanted to work things out if she was leaving?  Why did she say she could see a future for them?  How could she have made this decision without her if she still wanted them to be together?  What was she supposed to do now?  Was she just supposed to ignore this and wait for Bette to bring it up?  Should she confront her?  Things had been going so well or had they?  Maybe Bette hadn’t changed after all.  Maybe she was still trying to control their lives.  All she knew for sure was that she had to go back outside before Bette came looking for her.

    2. Hey..You’re Back!! I have been eagerly waiting for your new chapter and couldn’t help but smile when I saw you posted a new one today! I really love your story and the conversations that Bette&Tina are having are so realistic and beautiful..it will take a while to heal but I hope they will find each other in the end..and asalways, as long as you write ’em..I will faithfully read ’em..I’m already hooked!..do much appreciate you taking the time to share this with us..

    3. Hey, welcome back! Nice to read your stories again. It’s a good approach to explore. I love the conversations they have. It’s still dramatic but it’s not melodramatic. Still moving and the friendship they have shines through though can’t forget the fact that they’re not meant to be just friends. waiting for the next…

    4. This is more realistic to me than the stories that have B&T splitting up. Of all the people I have seen deal with infidelity in their marriage, it is the couples that truly love each other that try to make the relationship work. They go through all possibilities in order not to leave any ‘what ifs’ lurking out there. Of the ones that have taken the aforementioned route, all the marriages have survived. You are doing a fantastic job with this story. Keep up the great work. I like the honesty between these two.

    5. hey! nice to have you here again… Good one… Bette was so sweet with Tina seven years ago… and tina has forgiven bette… really good… what’s gonna be tina’s question? surprise surprise…

    6. This is great. It’s good how they are talking like mature woman and clearing the air instead of holding it in when they don’t know the facts.

    7. Great great great, like Bete said ‘Why couldn’t I have just talked to you instead of cheating on you?’ good question but if you didn’t we never got a chance to read this Story

    8. As Always this was a wonderful chapter. They seem to be moving closer to finding each other again. Please keep writing. I look forward to reading each new chapter.

    9. I’m so happy you didn’t chuck this story! It is so realistic…how I imagine 2 people who love each other find their way back. I am so enjoying this please go on…soon!

    10. Tina jumps to conclusions as quickly as Bette does. They are both so afraid of losing each other. Wonderful writing if u ever read these comments; I just wanted u to know.
