I Need My Best Friend – Part 6

Bette felt Tina touch her leg and motion to the foot of Bette’s lounge chair.

    ‘Can I sit here?’

    ‘Of course.’

Tina sat down never breaking eye contact with Bette.  She sat there quietly just looking at her until Bette couldn’t take the silence.

    ‘Tina, is something wrong?’

‘I don’t know Bette, maybe you can tell me.’

‘I’ll tell you anything Tina.  What is it you want me to tell you?’

‘You said you could see a future for us and that you were going to do everything you could to get me to fall in love with you again.  Did you mean it?’

‘With all my heart, don’t you believe me?’

‘I told you I didn’t really see a future for us because I had lost trust in you.’

Bette looked away, trying with all she had to prepare herself for the end.  Then she remembered what Tina had said about them deciding together.

‘Tina, what happened to us deciding together?’

‘That’s what I’d like to know Bette.  Where the ***** do you get off taking a job in Paris?’

‘I haven’t given Peggy an answer yet I wanted to talk to you first.  What?  Paris?  What are you talking how do you know about Paris?’

‘What’s Peggy got to do with Paris?’

‘Peggy doesn’t have anything to do with Paris.  We’re not talking about the same thing.’

By this time Tina was up pacing wildly about Bette’s chair.

‘All I know is you had better starting talking to me about Paris.’

‘Tina please sit down you’re making me dizzy.  Please, let’s talk about this.  How did you find out about Paris?’

Tina finally sat back down, but this time in her own chair, which didn’t go unnoticed by Bette.

‘I needed a piece of paper and when I opened the desk drawer I saw your letter of resignation.  When I picked it up I saw the offer from the gallery in Paris.’

‘Did you pick it up, look through it?’

‘No.  I felt like I was snooping.’

‘Didn’t I tell you this was your house and to feel free to go anywhere and do anything you want?  I’m not hiding anything from you.  If you would have looked at the offer you would have seen a copy of the letter I sent turning it down.  It was tempting when I thought you were never going to speak to me again, but I could never be that far from you whether we’re together or not.  I would have told you about it at the time, but we weren’t speaking.’

    1. glad to see you back+-AI least they are talking, and not yelling and screaming at each other,.great storypllease don’t wait sd long to write again, thanks

    2. Hey..You’re Back!! I have been eagerly waiting for your new chapter and couldn’t help but smile when I saw you posted a new one today! I really love your story and the conversations that Bette&Tina are having are so realistic and beautiful..it will take a while to heal but I hope they will find each other in the end..and asalways, as long as you write ’em..I will faithfully read ’em..I’m already hooked!..do much appreciate you taking the time to share this with us..

    3. Hey, welcome back! Nice to read your stories again. It’s a good approach to explore. I love the conversations they have. It’s still dramatic but it’s not melodramatic. Still moving and the friendship they have shines through though can’t forget the fact that they’re not meant to be just friends. waiting for the next…

    4. This is more realistic to me than the stories that have B&T splitting up. Of all the people I have seen deal with infidelity in their marriage, it is the couples that truly love each other that try to make the relationship work. They go through all possibilities in order not to leave any ‘what ifs’ lurking out there. Of the ones that have taken the aforementioned route, all the marriages have survived. You are doing a fantastic job with this story. Keep up the great work. I like the honesty between these two.

    5. hey! nice to have you here again… Good one… Bette was so sweet with Tina seven years ago… and tina has forgiven bette… really good… what’s gonna be tina’s question? surprise surprise…

    6. This is great. It’s good how they are talking like mature woman and clearing the air instead of holding it in when they don’t know the facts.

    7. Great great great, like Bete said ‘Why couldn’t I have just talked to you instead of cheating on you?’ good question but if you didn’t we never got a chance to read this Story

    8. As Always this was a wonderful chapter. They seem to be moving closer to finding each other again. Please keep writing. I look forward to reading each new chapter.

    9. I’m so happy you didn’t chuck this story! It is so realistic…how I imagine 2 people who love each other find their way back. I am so enjoying this please go on…soon!

    10. Tina jumps to conclusions as quickly as Bette does. They are both so afraid of losing each other. Wonderful writing if u ever read these comments; I just wanted u to know.
