I Need My Best Friend – Part 7

‘No, I didn’t think you were pushing.  I wanted to think about what I wanted to say before I called.  I’m sorry I fell asleep.’

‘I wasn’t trying to push, but I do think it was too soon for the letter.’

    ‘Why?’

‘I think we’ve really come along way in talking about the things that were going wrong between us.  And I know we’re going to have to begin to talk about what happened as a result.  I thought if I could just do something, anything to show you, given the chance, I would try to bring back the way things were before we drifted apart so you would see I really am trying to change.’

‘I didn’t need the letter to tell me you’re sincere about trying to change, but I’m glad you wrote it.’

‘I think we’re at a place now that we, at least I’m, going to need some help.’

    ‘What do you mean?’

‘Can we go back to Foxworthy together?  I want to do this right and I’m afraid I’ll mess up any chance we have if I don’t have some guidance.’

    ‘Okay.’

‘Don’t you want some time to think about it?’

‘No, I think you’re right, we could use some help.  When you see Foxworthy tomorrow why don’t you go ahead and make an appointment.’

‘Thank you, now why don’t you get some sleep.’

‘Would you do something for me first?’

    ‘What?’

‘Where were you when you were waiting for me to call?’

    ‘In bed.’

    ‘Where are you now?’

    ‘By the pool.’

‘Bette!  It’s almost four in the morning.’

    ‘I couldn’t sleep.’

‘I’m going to hang up.  I want you to go back to bed and just pretend that the past six hours never happened.  Will you do that for me?’

    ‘Yes.’

    ‘Thank you.’

    “` A Few Moments Later “`

    ‘Hello.’

    ‘Miss me?’

    ‘More than you know.’

‘I have a pretty good idea.  Thank you for the letter.  Remember when we found that little caf?’

‘We both had an awful day at work, got lost trying to find that new restaurant it had taken me weeks to get reservations and we were running over an hour late.  We finally gave up and said we’d stop at the next place we saw.’

    ‘It was the perfect place.’

‘You liked it so much we went back the next night.’

‘We went at least once a week for the longest time.’

    ‘We never should have stopped.’

‘It was kind of out of the way.’

‘It was worth it, you liked it so much.’

‘I liked having dinner appear out of nowhere tonight too.  I did skip lunch.  And the flowers were beautiful.  When did you do all that?’

‘After I dropped you off, you gave me your itinerary, it had your hotel on it.’

‘Thank you, everything you did, the letter, dinner and the flowers, made tonight special.  You know I hate traveling alone.’

‘I’m glad you liked everything.  You should try to get some sleep now.’

‘One more thing before we hang up.’

    ‘What?’

‘I realized yesterday that well, I forgive you Bette.  I know we still have a lot to work through, but I’m hopeful.’

‘You don’t know how I’ve wanted to hear you say that, I’ll take hopeful.  I know there’s still a lot of work ahead, I won’t let you down again.’

‘I’ll call you tomorrow night.  I promise it won’t be so late.’

    1. This was absolutely brilliant! Love the letter and the conversation between Bette and Tina..so loving, so tender, so honest..keep ’em coming please..and thanks for this!

    2. wow, they’re quite level headed on handling themselves. Yeah, I think reviving the old habbits that keeps the fire in relationship is surely a place to start. Your series doesn’t lack drama but it’s still so real. sometimes life is dramatic enough without any attempts to make it dramatic.

    3. What a wonderful story. It brought me to tears. You have a wonderful gift. Please continue to share your beautiful story with us. I am looking forward.

    4. Just read this installment, and it was fantastic. Thanks for letting Tina tell Bette that she has forgiven her, it meant so much for Bette to hear that. Can’t wait for the next chapter. Thanks

    5. I really enjoy it, I could feel Bette dispair when Tina finally called, all of it was really sweet. and Girl…. it’s been a week pleaseeeeeeeeee update :D
