I Need My Best Friend – Part 7

Tina hung up the phone.  Bette hadn’t been mad.  She hadn’t been anything.  There was no emotion what so ever in her voice.  She picked up the phone, took a deep breath and said a little prayer.

    ‘Hello.’

‘Bette, I’m so sorry I fell asleep.  I was just so tired, I drank some of the wine and I was rereading your letter, your wonderful letter, and I was thinking about what I wanted to say and I just fell asleep.  I’m so sorry you were worried and Bette?’

    ‘Yes.’

‘You never have to apologize for trying to bring us back.  I’m so sorry baby, please forgive me?’

‘You fell asleep, there’s nothing to forgive, I’m sorry you’re so tired.  Why don’t you go back to sleep, you’ll have to get up soon.’

‘I don’t have to be there until 10:00.  You were awake when I called, weren’t you?’

    ‘Yes.’

    ‘Have you slept at all?’

    ‘No.’

‘I’m really sorry Bette.  Why didn’t you have them ring your call through or call my cell?’

‘I just wanted to know you were all right.  I didn’t want to push you to talk to me.’

‘Bette why are you so calm?  Say something!  Get mad and yell at me, something!’

‘I don’t have any reason to yell at you.’

‘Do you hear the way you sound?’

    ‘How?’

‘There is absolutely no emotion in your voice.  I need to know how you feel.’

‘Why don’t we wait and talk when you get back?’

‘I really don’t want to leave things this way.  I won’t be back until Thursday night.  Please talk to me now.’

‘All right, what exactly do you want to talk about?’

‘I need to know that you really believe I fell asleep.’

‘Tina I don’t have any reason not to believe you, of course I believe you.’

‘Then why did your message sound so flat?’

‘Because I was afraid that you didn’t take the letter the way I meant it.’

‘It reminded me of the way things were in the beginning, when we were falling in love and that you wanted that back.  Is that how you wanted me to feel?’

‘Yes, but when you didn’t call I was afraid you might think I was trying to push too soon.’

    1. This was absolutely brilliant! Love the letter and the conversation between Bette and Tina..so loving, so tender, so honest..keep ’em coming please..and thanks for this!

    2. wow, they’re quite level headed on handling themselves. Yeah, I think reviving the old habbits that keeps the fire in relationship is surely a place to start. Your series doesn’t lack drama but it’s still so real. sometimes life is dramatic enough without any attempts to make it dramatic.

    3. What a wonderful story. It brought me to tears. You have a wonderful gift. Please continue to share your beautiful story with us. I am looking forward.

    4. Just read this installment, and it was fantastic. Thanks for letting Tina tell Bette that she has forgiven her, it meant so much for Bette to hear that. Can’t wait for the next chapter. Thanks

    5. I really enjoy it, I could feel Bette dispair when Tina finally called, all of it was really sweet. and Girl…. it’s been a week pleaseeeeeeeeee update :D
