I Will Not Let You Fall
Sitting in one of those old metal chairs, Bette considered the officer while he was making photocopies of her documents. He was a short white man with grayish blonde hair and a three-day unkempt stubble, a bit paunchy. He had a nine-millimeter handgun sticking out the side of his gun holster and was wearing a polo shirt tucked into cargo shorts and a pair of running shoes.
When he finally took a seat at his desk, he looked straight at Bette. The badge on his chest was now fully visible and the brunette took a quick glance at the man’s name that read Parole Officer Franklin Phillips.
”I must say I’ve gotten a lot of phone calls about you so far. Your case is kind of unique,” the officer claimed.
Bette shrugged her shoulders lazily and made no response of any kind.
Phillips smirked at her, his conceited blue eyes analyzing her for another unnecessary long moment. ”So what do we have here?” she asked himself then, looking down to read into Bette’s paperwork. ”Controlled drug trafficking operations, operated escort services, killed a mob underboss…” his sentence trailed off as he raised his head and stared at Bette as if searching for a certain reaction on her face.
However, Bette kept calm and collected, revealing no emotion. She saw no point in reacting to the officer’s statements, which were so obviously done for effect. She waited for specific questions.
”How could a young beautiful woman like you ever want to do something like that?”
Bette’s eyebrow shot up in an arch before she could stop it. ”As you said, I was young. And thoughtless.”
”So now you’re mature and thoughtful enough to get an early release,” he stated, once again putting a certain amount of mockery into his words.
Great, an asshole of a parole officer, that was exactly what she needed at this point, Bette thought to herself as she answered evenly, ”I am.”
”What can I say, time will tell,” Phillips said with a sneer, tapping his pen against the desk. ”You have anywhere to live?”
Bette nodded.
The officer slid a piece of paper over to her and handed her a pen. ”I need the address. Who’re you living with?”
”A woman I met yesterday,” Bette answered, hesitantly writing down the required information, feeling uncomfortable for engaging Ayola’s home address into her mess.

Thank you for the another chapter!
Ok, we still don’t know anything about how Tina lives with her life, does she she even remember Bette?
And maybe, just maybe she even helped with Bette’s parole? Well, or maybe i just want to think that she did.
And i like Bette and Ayola friendship but i hope it will not create sexual or romantic feelings between them ( i still like only B&T relationship)

Hi Valerie:
Wonderful chapter; a little sad Ms. Caroll passed, she was like a mother for Bette.
Who has Bette’s apartment now? It looks like someone who wants to keep it as Bette left it; maybe, maybe not.
I would like to know about Tina’s life, but perhaps you will fill us on it when she reappears in Bette’s life.
Very nice Bette’s new friend, Ayola, very compassionate; I hope they remain to be friends,
Thank you very much for this chapter, this story is excellent, I’ll be waiting eagerly for your update (and for the other story too).

Great chapter! Sad that Mrs. Caroll has passed away. Ayola is very nice and what Bette needs to get reacquainted with the outside world. Hopefully, they will remain friends. However, I want Tina to resurface and she and Bette get reintroduced and get to know each other again. Great update!

Hi Valerie,
Great chapter as always!
I love that Bette found a great friend in Ayola, that is so important when you are all alone and trying to build a new life. Like i already thought Mrs. Caroll passed away, that is so sad. I hope Ayola will stay a wonderfull friend for Bette and i think she is the link to Tina.
I had to laugh that you named the parole officer Franklin Philips ????
Just like proteonomics, i am wondering about Bette’s old apartment,
I hope you can update soon and that your computer saves your chapter the next time.

Her new friend is helping with that but like others have said friend is were it needs to stay…and I do hope Tina has kept an eye on her all along from afar.fingers crossed thank you.
