I Will Not Let You Fall
”Where did you meet her?”
”She picked me up on my way to Los Angeles.”
”You met her yesterday and you’re already living with her?”
When finished, Bette put down the pen carefully and reclined in her chair again. ”Yes. We’ve gotten friendly.”
”Does she know who you are?”
”She does. I’ve told her everything.”
”And she’s fine with it?”
”She said she was. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have offered me to stay at her place.”
”And she wants nothing in return?”
Bette shrugged.
”Very philanthropic of her. I didn’t know such people existed. I mean, to let some felon into your house, that’s just…” without finishing his thought, the officer chuckled unpleasantly.
Bette’s expression remained deadpan as she stared at Phillips steadily.
”Do you have relatives in Los Angeles?” the man continued his interrogation.
”No.”
”Friends?”
Bette shook her head.
Phillips paused as he regarded the relaxed brunette in front of him with a slight frown. ”Let me get this straight. You have no family here, no friends, no place of your own, you live with a person you know for one day. Is that correct?”
Bette nodded. ”More than.”
The man slowly leaned forward and rested his elbows on the desk. ”How in the world were you granted parole if you have no support on the outside whatsoever?”
”I believe I’m not the one you should ask this question, officer.”
”Very well,” Phillips said, dropping the subject and turning towards the monitor of his computer, taking a hold of the computer mouse. ”I’m sure you’re aware of the conditions of your parole. No weapons, no associating with ex-cons, no drugs. You come here and report to me every week as well as submit to random drug tests if I decide it is necessary. Meanwhile, you must find a job and stay out of trouble. The slightest mistake and I’ll make sure you return to prison with much longer time to serve.”
”Got it,” Bette acknowledged.
”Remember, I’m the arbiter of your life from now on. Whatever you do, wherever you are, whoever you are with, I might use it against you if you’re not careful enough. When I ask questions, I want truthful responses to them. No holding back. Again, I might use your secrets against you,” Phillips paused for emphasis. ”You need to get it through your head. I don’t like you. I don’t like seeing you. I don’t like dealing with you and kinds like you. But I will do everything so that you don’t forget your prison term is not over yet.”

Thank you for the another chapter!
Ok, we still don’t know anything about how Tina lives with her life, does she she even remember Bette?
And maybe, just maybe she even helped with Bette’s parole? Well, or maybe i just want to think that she did.
And i like Bette and Ayola friendship but i hope it will not create sexual or romantic feelings between them ( i still like only B&T relationship)

Hi Valerie:
Wonderful chapter; a little sad Ms. Caroll passed, she was like a mother for Bette.
Who has Bette’s apartment now? It looks like someone who wants to keep it as Bette left it; maybe, maybe not.
I would like to know about Tina’s life, but perhaps you will fill us on it when she reappears in Bette’s life.
Very nice Bette’s new friend, Ayola, very compassionate; I hope they remain to be friends,
Thank you very much for this chapter, this story is excellent, I’ll be waiting eagerly for your update (and for the other story too).

Great chapter! Sad that Mrs. Caroll has passed away. Ayola is very nice and what Bette needs to get reacquainted with the outside world. Hopefully, they will remain friends. However, I want Tina to resurface and she and Bette get reintroduced and get to know each other again. Great update!

Hi Valerie,
Great chapter as always!
I love that Bette found a great friend in Ayola, that is so important when you are all alone and trying to build a new life. Like i already thought Mrs. Caroll passed away, that is so sad. I hope Ayola will stay a wonderfull friend for Bette and i think she is the link to Tina.
I had to laugh that you named the parole officer Franklin Philips ????
Just like proteonomics, i am wondering about Bette’s old apartment,
I hope you can update soon and that your computer saves your chapter the next time.

Geez.. it’s just all so sad…i had a feeling her friend and mother had past but the rest is sad as well. She needs love and a since of belonging, fitting in to her own life. Her new friend is helping with that but like others have said friend is were it needs to stay…and I do hope Tina has kept an eye on her all along from afar.fingers crossed thank you.
