    “Impressive “Rosemary said “Bette was round the other night and we showed her the picture of the three of us. Afterwards we all sat round drinking brandy and telling stories about what we used to get up to. I have to tell you that Bette is impressed with stories of you “
    Emma laughed
    “She is always impressed when she hears stories about lesbians breaking glass ceilings and she liked that you were senior partner and an out lesbian. I told her that being out like you were was not as common as it is now “
    “I know and I hate to sound like an old fart but we blazed a trail for lesbians today. I am proud of what I have achieved. But I am glad that most people accept my daughter and your daughter’s sexuality as less of a big deal than when I came out “
    Rosemary chuckled “Bette even suggested that she ask you out “
    “What!! “
    Rosemary laughed “I think it was a joke “
    “You think! “
    “Bette’s sense of humor can be a little strange at times. She spent a year studying at Cambridge University and came back with a love of all things British – including their sense of humor – she is ironic and sarcastic in a way that a lot of people in America do not always appreciate some of her comments. I was gently trying to find out what she thought of blondes and she says she does have a weakness for them. I may not have tackled it as well as I could have because she said that she might ask you out “
    “Tell me it was her sense of humor “
    “It was her idea of a joke – it just takes a while for her sense of humor to register when you first meet her. But she does have a thing for blondes she told me “
    Emma beamed “Not that I would object to a beautiful young woman on my arm but I just feel that Tina needs a date more than me. I am flattered “
    “The thought of you and Bette is too much sorry “
    Emma laughed “I agree – the good news is that Tina has ended her relationship with the ghastly Jane “
    “For good?”
    “It seems that way. I cooked for Tina last night which is why I did’t ring like I promised- I am sorry for that “
    “Its okay – go on”
    “Well Tina came over and I cooked for her and we polished off some of my best red wine while she really opened up to me. She sounds more positive than she has for a long time. She has known for a long time that Jane was no good for her and at time was bad for her. Finally, she seems to see it and not only see it but want to act on it. I feel such a feeling of relief. I have been worried about her and she finally seems to be getting herself together. Last night I went to bed and cried with happiness “
    Rosemary smiled “They do that to you kids “
    “They do “Emma agreed “You never stop worrying, they make you angrier than anything else but you are so freakingly proud of them “
    “True on all three counts – Bette is stubbornly independent. Once she was beyond the age of 11, she wouldn’t’t let either of us take her to school – insisted on walking or getting the subway. In a way it’s been good because she is street smart and is very sure of herself “
    “Tina can be sure of herself she’s just lost her way and that’so sad. She’s feisty – gets that from both of us “
    “Hell knows no fury like Bette when she can’t get her own way “Rosemary said smiling
    “So, would you say she was more like Melvin or you?”

    1. this read is very familiar, Tina in bad relationships like bette’s fleeting trophy arm candy women. beg me t ask, is this the story where tine decides to join Emma’s firm and become part of the legal profession? and bette and Tina do meet and begin a relationship with the blessings of everyone.

      *****( ahh but I digress. the story I recall is when Emma does have a wife Kate whom Tina adores until Emma and Kate’s relationship ends due to infidelity on the part of one partner,, emma’s relationship with Tina was volatile at best on the better days, Tina ends up joining Emma’s firm, starts a relationship with bette and Emma begins to resent bette and Tina’s relationship due to…hw can it be said, “jealousy” of bette being with Tina? )******

      this story seems to be a combination of two stories combined with one. thank you for sharing.

    2. Nice one, Ally. Did you write it before “One and only”? I like the re-use of the parents’ characters.

      I’d love to read more of it. Wonder what you have in mind for Bette and Tina. Feels like Helena might bump into T first and set her eyes on her. The parents’ matchmaking could go wrong. Or even funnier if Tina meets Bette while running in Central Park and they start dating without their parents knowing.

      Your first chapters were enough for me to be very curious of where you might take this story, so please continue.

      Happy New Year ????

      This story sounds familiar and mm mentioned about it. Emma’s wife Kate was still alive and it ended because Emma cheated. I think that Tina went to work with Rosemary and not with her mother in the firm. And if my memory is correct, Rosemary and Emma or Kate were involved in a romance in the very past, college or present.

      Any way, i am very happy to see you back with a Tibette story. You are a fantastic writer and i am currently rereading The L Wing. Any chance you are going to finish that one like you did with New York Minute a few years ago?

    4. Yes I remember that story but if my memory serves me right, Bette and Tina met when they were way younger, The background was more or less the same….
      But I love this new version, it’s really great and well written as usaul with you Ally !

      Interesting story and I know I have read these characters before but I loved them and even more now because they are in a new story. A BnT story I feel a slow burn coming on.. lol especially if it’s taking this long for them to meet and now Bette’s suspicious of her mom setting her up but the only good thing is we know she will be surprised that there is a younger version she can make a real life with .. both their futures are about to collide they just dont know it yet.. why can’t very parent be like these..lol thank you and welcome back.
