    Bette looked across in surprise to see her mother standing up. She beamed and went to greet her. She hugged her mom
    “What are you doing this far up town?”
    “Meeting Emma Kennard – come and say hello “
    “Oh – okay “
    Bette allowed herself to be brought to the table. Emma stood up to be introduced to the girl she had heard so much about.
    “Bette – this is our old college friend Emma. Emma – this is our daughter Bette “
    Emma rarely did speechless but there was no way that Rosemary and Melvin’s descriptions of their daughter had done her justice. She was one of the single most beautiful females she had ever seen. Tall – well over 5ft 10 with long, curly brown hair that she had inherited from her mother. She carried herself with style and dignity – just like her father and mother. But she also had a beauty of her own. She was stunningly hot – Emma could see in an instant how Bette could get any lesbian she wanted.
    “Pleased to meet you – my parents have told me so much about you and I am in awe of everything that I have heard “Bette said offering her hand to the older woman
    “Thank you Bette I am really happy to meet you – your parents are rightly proud of you”
    “Can you stay a while?” Rosemary asked
    “Well I was just popping out to grab some food but for my mother and someone who knew them both when they were rebellious students, I could easily find time. “
    Rosemary knew that Bette did’t have the time but was making it for the sake of her mother. Something else which made her proud of her offspring. Bette casually removed her jacket and went across to hang it up
    “Now keep your hands off her “Rosemary said smiling at Emma who was looking at Bette in some wonderment.
    “That is one fine looking lesbian “Emma said “Mighty fine “
    “Behave “Rosemary said amused by the whole thing “Or I shall send you to your room “
    Bette returned to the table and sat down – she was wearing a dark blue business suit and a crisp white shirt; she crossed her legs to reveal expensive boots that added to her natural height.
    “How’so the exhibition?” Rosemary asked
    “Going well – I have got some good sales “
    “What about “
    “Mom – I don’t want to talk about my gallery when I have a real live witness to you and dad at college – tell me what they were like?”
    Emma laughed “They were wonderful – your mother was beautiful and had men follow her around and your father was noble and polite and I loved both of them “
    Bette smiled “That’s sweet – you can spill the beans when mom goes to the bathroom on what they were really like “
    “They were really lovely people “Emma reiterated
    “Come on – there must have been some scandal – it was the damn 60’s – you must have got stoned a lot and had wild parties “
    “You know we all smoked dope “Rosemary said “Bette is trying to pretend that we paint ourselves whiter than white “
    “No – you keep telling me what rebels you were but I want to see proof “
    “Your mom is right – we were rebels -everything was new – the music – can you imagine hearing the Beatles for the first time? Can you imagine hearing the Stones for the first time – totally new music and there was so much hope “
    Bette was listening fascinated as Emma spoke about the whole atmosphere of their college days.
    “Wow “Bette said finally when Emma had stopped speaking “Fascinating “
    “Now when Melvin and I tell her all that she just dismisses us “Rosemary said laughing
    “I will just order myself a sandwich – I have a lot of questions “
    Bette got up and walked to the counter – being lunchtime there was a queue. Emma lent forward and spoke to Rosemary
    “You did’t tell me she was that hot – and charming “
    “I don’t think you are supposed to regard your daughter as hot “
    “No one has told you that?”
    Rosemary shook her head “Yes – we hear it all the time- that our daughter is the hottest lesbian in New York and that she is the perfect package. She is beautiful and intelligent and lots of other things but she’s our daughter “
    “That does’t follow – I think Tina is just beautiful “
    “There is a difference between thinking your daughter is beautiful and hot. I think the latter is a little tasteless. But yes – she is a stunner “
    “We can agree on that “Emma said “She is also utterly charming “
    “She was brought up by Melvin – she has always idolized her father and you know what store he always set in the right manners and being polite “
    “Does she have any flaws?”
    “Of course, she does “
    “She does’t look as if you do “
    “Steady on Emma or I might start thinking that you want her for yourself “
    Emma looked at Bette – that ass was almost a deadly weapon.
    “No darling – I am too old for her – she is too young and energetic for me and Tina’s need is greater than mine. I also guess that Tina would make her happier than I ever could “
    “Do you still want to get them together?”
    “Yes – I want the best for Tina – she is a good person and she is clever and loving and I do think she needs someone special. I have no doubt that Bette is just what she needs “
    Rosemary looked around at her daughter who was standing at the counter having miraculously caught the eye of the young waiter serving behind the counter. She looked back at Rosemary
    “I agree with you – -she has admitted that she would love to settle down but she says she never meets the right sort of women. How are we going to do it Emma? We have to do it in such a way that they never know that we have been plotting and planning “

    1. this read is very familiar, Tina in bad relationships like bette’s fleeting trophy arm candy women. beg me t ask, is this the story where tine decides to join Emma’s firm and become part of the legal profession? and bette and Tina do meet and begin a relationship with the blessings of everyone.

      *****( ahh but I digress. the story I recall is when Emma does have a wife Kate whom Tina adores until Emma and Kate’s relationship ends due to infidelity on the part of one partner,, emma’s relationship with Tina was volatile at best on the better days, Tina ends up joining Emma’s firm, starts a relationship with bette and Emma begins to resent bette and Tina’s relationship due to…hw can it be said, “jealousy” of bette being with Tina? )******

      this story seems to be a combination of two stories combined with one. thank you for sharing.

    2. Nice one, Ally. Did you write it before “One and only”? I like the re-use of the parents’ characters.

      I’d love to read more of it. Wonder what you have in mind for Bette and Tina. Feels like Helena might bump into T first and set her eyes on her. The parents’ matchmaking could go wrong. Or even funnier if Tina meets Bette while running in Central Park and they start dating without their parents knowing.

      Your first chapters were enough for me to be very curious of where you might take this story, so please continue.

      Happy New Year ????

      This story sounds familiar and mm mentioned about it. Emma’s wife Kate was still alive and it ended because Emma cheated. I think that Tina went to work with Rosemary and not with her mother in the firm. And if my memory is correct, Rosemary and Emma or Kate were involved in a romance in the very past, college or present.

      Any way, i am very happy to see you back with a Tibette story. You are a fantastic writer and i am currently rereading The L Wing. Any chance you are going to finish that one like you did with New York Minute a few years ago?

      Interesting story and I know I have read these characters before but I loved them and even more now because they are in a new story. A BnT story I feel a slow burn coming on.. lol especially if it’s taking this long for them to meet and now Bette’s suspicious of her mom setting her up but the only good thing is we know she will be surprised that there is a younger version she can make a real life with .. both their futures are about to collide they just dont know it yet.. why can’t very parent be like these..lol thank you and welcome back.
