Helena left her mother’s office close to tears – Emma took hold of her and they hugged
“I am sorry Helena “
“Its not your fault – shit – why the hell can my mother not just accept that its my life and I will lead it any way I see fit”
Emma hugged Helena tight and for a few minutes neither spoke
“Come with me to my office – I want a few things “
They walked in silence to Helena’s office. Helena took a small plastic crate from a cupboard and started putting things into it
“How long are you planning to stay away for ?”
“The way I feel – I might not come back “
“Helena “
“I have my own money – money from investments and money that my dad left me as well as some property in Florida that brings in a decent monthly income. I don’t have to work for the family business – this might be the time to make the break”
“You have to do what you think is right “
Helena swung round and pointed at Emma
“See — that – what you just said – say it again “
“I just said that you have to do what you think is right “
“That is the key phrase – my mother has never let me do what I want – even if its wrong – its my mistake Emma”
Emma flopped down on the sofa “I realise that I am guilty of double standards – I have just said that but if Tina was here she would point out how many times I have bullied her telling her that she had to get a good job and pull herself together and all that shit. I cannot live her life for her – yes I was worried sick when she was just bumming around not doing anything with her life. I promised Kate I would take good care of her and I didn’t – I bullied her and pressurised her . She got herself together because of Bette – because Bette gives her the love and strength that she didn’t have”
Helena looked at Emma “Where do you think Tina is ?”
“I hope she is on her way to Bette’s gallery – we need to go there and find out. “
“You realise that she is going to be wanting to strangle me ?” Helena said “I do not want to fall out with Tina “
“You didn’t do anything wrong babe”
Helena flopped into her chair and looked round the office
“I love this office – its just got a great view “
“Its not bad – mine is better “
“Yeah well – you own the firm – I am just the hired hand”
“You are the heir to the owner”
“Well she can shove it where the monkey keeps his nuts for all I care at the moment. I know she has pulled some mean crap in the past – hell I have applauded her for some of the things that she has done – I never thought she would do this to me “
“I wish I was shocked Helena – I am not. Maybe doing what I do gives you a jaundiced view of people but — well I have seen people at their worst “
“Yeah — well you would think that spending so much time working on the Peabody Foundation would leave me full of stories about the best of people – not sure that is true. Did you know that Tina uncovered a fraud within about two weeks of her working here ?”
“No”
“Yeah – she was reviewing some applications and one of them smelt fishy to her so she handed it to mom who did some digging and three people are under investigation for trying to rip off charitable organisations like ours and another couple”
Emma smiled “She has picked some skills up from Kate and I – what do we do now Helena ?”
“You should be at work “
“No – not until I have made sure that Tina is okay – I know her – she will be angry with Peggy and probably you “
“Yeah -we should get round to the gallery.. “ Helena pulled a drawer open and threw a few more items into her small crate. After five minutes she was ready to go – before she left she picked up the phone
“Reception – this is Helena Peabody – can you get me a cab — yes – I am on my way down – thank you “
Helena put the phone down “Come on – lets find Tina and give her the whole story”
Emma stood up “Damn Peggy – why the hell could she not leave us alone – what damn harm are we doing anyone? “
“I know”

Oh oh, you are the drama Queen of this site.
What a terrible thing Peggy has done and now Tina is missing, not knowing the whole story. This is a utter mess and drags our couple in it.
I am not a fan of Emma and Helena in a relationship, but Peggy has gone to far. She should have stay out of it and let it run its course. Now she has lost her child and maybe Tina working for her. She lost the respect for now from Bette and maybe her parents when they hear what she has done.
Most important, where is Tina?!!! Go find her Bette!

Waking up to this on a Sunday morning is only okay if there is another post SOON. Where did Tina go? She turned off her phone. This messes up everything. Tina really adored Peggy. And vice versa. No way Tina is going to want to go forward with the job. And she was so happy and excited. Not anymore. Maybe Helena can talk to her. I guess the birthday truce was a one off. Peggy will have to do an awful lot of explaining and apologizing and that just doesn’t seem like her style. On the other hand she loves and respects Bette and when she realizes she may have lost her and by proxy the respect of Melvin and Rosemary she may very well finally do some heartfelt apologizing. I love Peggy. Such a phenomenal character. But she obviously can be a handful. Admit I did not see this coming. Emma and Helena not a great pairing in my opinion. BUT…. not cool. Does Peggy Peabody do guilt? We will see. AND where is Tina? AND why didn’t she go to Bette? Such a journey. Please update soon.

My bet is that Tina is either at her apartment or Bette’s apartment. I need to read back, had Bette and Tina completed the moving of Tina to Bette? I didn’t think they had but planned it to be completed before leaving Monday on vacation. She is somewhere just trying to think this through.
There is nothing like giving someone enough rope that they will hang themselves with with it as a trap. But then to lie to someone about doing it or the results of the trap is beneath immoral. Peggy was warned by Tina herself to let this work itself out. But Peggy could not exhibit any kind of patience whatsoever and has been caught by the person she really did not want to be caught with – Tina!! Upsetting Helena or Emma did not mean as much as upsetting Tina and who in return will upset Bette. Oh what complicated webs weave when we practice to deceive.
Both Emma and Helena conducted themselves as adults in both their conversations with Peggy and with Bette. They were never irrational. They never threatened. They merely allow the plot to unfold and Peggy to see that she had been trapped in her own trap and her losses may be far greater than she ever anticipated…
And Bette is right – how Tina handles this once the all the facts are known are up to Tina. It’s Tina’s employment and her future which lies in the balance. The question becomes – can she overlook this behavior from her boss which was unethical and clearly directed to besmirch the character of Emma and Helena?
This chapter is very impressive. The author has brought the most unsympathetic couple to the most unabashed victims of parental objection I believe I have ever seen.. The same couple has gone from giggly teenagers to mature responsible women who are conducting themselves in a responsible relationship. An amazing chapter. Honors for best drama for the month ……
