    Je t’aime (part 2 of 3)

They were met at the door by the maitre’de who took their jackets, revealing the very combination of outfits Tina had pictured in her mind, Bette looking stunning in a pantsuit with elegant heals and a crisp black shirt, as she wore her own idea of a heavenly dress, one she knew Bette would appreciate also.

Bette picked up the wine list as they both sat down, her French always better, “Une bouteille de votre champagne plus fin, s’il vous plait?” she asked, pleased by the way Tina’s eyes rolled back as she spoke with her rusty French accent, always a turn on,

The maitre’de nodded and walked away, leaving them alone,

“Oooh Bette, oysters …” Tina eyed the menu carefully,

Bette chuckled, “You don’t want l’escargots then?” she asked, laughing to herself as she remembered the one time Tina had agreed to try them, remarking that they tasted rather like garlicky rubber and not the epicurean delicacy Bette was going for,

Tina screwed up her nose and winced, “No thanks …”

They ordered oysters and bread to start, savouring the flavours as they toasted themselves with champagne, arms linked together. Between courses their fingers linked lightly atop the tablecloth, shrouded in privacy by the dim restaurant candlelight, their mouths saying little as their eyes spoke volumes, communicating wordlessly.

“I missed you so much,” said Bette quietly, her voice chocked full of emotion,

Tina’s eyes sparkled with tears, overwhelmed by this new, improved, version of Bette who could voice her fears and feelings, she grinned, “I missed you too …”

Bette shook her head, “Not like that,” she paused, “I mean, I’ve missed ‘you’ obviously,” her lips curling as she said it, “but its more than that, I’ve missed so many things about you that I never knew I took for granted until it was too late,”

    Tina looked down, looking away,

“Le poulet?” the waiter asked, arriving with their main meals,

Bette sat back and nodded, accepting her dish, Tina’s avoidance of her eye line slightly worrying,

Tina smiled as he then set down her own meal,

    “Le boeuf?”

    “Yes please,”

She inhaled deeply, smelling her food as she began attacking it eagerly with her fork, “Mmn, this smells fantastic,”

    1. They have to work to be together. This can go on for a long time but sooner or later the world will find out what we know already, there is no other love like Tibette love.

    2. Incroyable!! You struck the right tone of their relationship and love. Not taking each other for granted but totally appreciative of what they have in each other. And not willing to lose it again. Just wonderful!! PPS.

    3. Babe, I think I love your conclusion most of all. Though there are so many parts of the story that I could point to as being just so lovely…your descriptions of those daily daily experiences, that human experience of being so in every moment (which is something I admire in you as a person and as a writer)…the way you weave the characters together through power imbalances and miscommunication to come to a place of harmony (which lets face it, is a natural place for us to live as much as it is ideal)…your ending really gets me, how when it comes to Bette, Tina’s sadness can live alongside being elated. Lovely work baby, and I promise always to inspire as much blushing as possible in you…not for its own sake, and not only because you’re so cute while blushing, but because you deserve every blush-worthy word and compliment I can give you;) xo

    4. “They weren’t that innocent loved up couple whose hands never parted, whose fingers and mouths kissed and touched long on into the night. Instead they were a family, and for Tina that was bigger, grander, and more touching than any stereotypical bunch of flowers.

    5. I’m breathless. That story was absolutely exquisite. I felt as though I was watching the two find what had been lost while exploring all that was new between and within them. Sofa, this is one of your best ever. So many wonderful parts — Bette falling asleep after her flight in Tina’s arms, the shared shower, Tina buying a new suit for Bette, Tina telling Bette she loved her in French… So much beauty and romance. Ahh…C’est Magnifique!
