Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Fifteen (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

    CHAPTER FIFTEEN: Tire of Hate

    Previously..

Three weeks.” Tina blurted out of nowhere.

    “Excuse me?”

“Three weeks.” The blonde said again. “You were asking for a time line, so I’m saying three weeks.”

    “Are you sure?”

“I’m not.” Tina answered honestly. “But I really don’t think I could last a month..”

    ———-

Six days, thirteen hours, twelve minutes and thirty-one seconds since that fateful morning at Fat Ben’s.

Number one, she read to herself as her eyes skimmed the line at the top of her notepad. Hate, Hate, Hate! Were the words written there in her messy script, the words written so big it appeared to jump out of the paper. And as if that weren’t enough, she pointed her pen next to it and scribbled another.. HATE! This time in all bold and all caps. Overkill, much?

Between her and Bette, the latter was the planner. The organized one. Or as Alice would often joke, the anal one. Bette loved lists; she loved making them as much as she loved following them. Odd how a woman who thrived in chaos and mayhem adored something as structured and stringent as an everyday to-do list. But that was Bette Porter to you, beautifully complicated, anally complex. Tina would often chide Bette for her detailed lists, called her out on it because she always believed that life should be lived spontaneously. Plans, more often than not, go awry – and to save Bette from the eventual frustration and disappointment that would happen when they did, Tina frequently advised her to chuck them out the window. Bette never listened, probably never will. Yet.. its funny how Tina just ate all her words and disregarded her own nuggets of wisdom; cause now, sitting on the comfiest leather chair in the world, Tina Kennard was staring at the stowaway table in front of her, taking in the sight of her newly made list.

A list that only contained two measly numbers. Two! But she didn’t mind this one bit, for Tina, two was enough. Two was better than none at all. Yet, it should also be noted that it was a list that took her approximately four hours and thirty seven minutes to finish – for just two numbers.

    1. My eyes bulge out of their sockets…WOW…54 pages. Wow, I can only bow in admiration. Thank you. On the story, both are having a hellion on the break time, man I am having a hellion on the break time and not even part of the story. I guess we havnet seen the last of the wannabe musician back. What happens next? ;)

    2. thanks alch…another brilliant update and i actually took a bathroom break just like you said lol. i’m just afraid that since this is a long update it might take you longer to write the next? hope not, looking forward to it.

    3. Thank you Alchy for such a wonderful and long read! You did a great job of weaving the scenes together. I love the Tina-Ken teasing, Bette – Sonja “recovery/addiction” moment, 3-step recovery for Tina, Sam/Bette’s conversation and the Tibette car. So very, very, very clever!!!! Ok…I sense that “Keith Arden” is somehow connected to a certain “Kate Arden.” Hm…looks like a black cloud on the Tibette reunion horizon. But…I cling to the hope that Ken’s almost secret sharing of perhaps an engagement is in the future. You know that small ray of hope is what is bringing your readers back!!!!! Get some rest Alchy…get your creative juices a break but come back real soon…we need our Alchy fix!

    4. Your story always satisfies, Alchemy. You get some of everything in here, and it’s all fab. I loved this chapter. Here’s hoping that Tina can stick to #3 on her list, and I hope Bette can do the same. Great, great update, Alchemy. Thank you! :)

    5. Brilliant chapter Alchemy – you always take such care with detail, emotion, characterization – amazing ;-) As someone said abt the previous chapter – one thing Bette still needs to learn is how to take Tina off that pedestal and treat her like an equal. Relationships mean sharing – both good things and bad – IMO that’s the biggest repair they need, the only truly important one. I loved seeing Tina & Ken again – what a great father daughter dynamic they have. I see Tina is still eating her pain, haha! The flashback was great and so was the bittersweet ending.
