Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Fifteen (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

If there’s one thing she learned from Bette’s expert list-making abilities, it was that every list should have a title. Grocery list, To-do list, Plans for the Week list, Potential Birthday Gifts for Sammy list, Pointers for Review list, Sexual Positions That We Still Haven’t Done Yet list.. and her absolute favorite though she wouldn’t admit to Bette, the Reasons Why I Love You list (which only had one reason so far: number one, because I do <3 <3 <3). Tina’s list, no matter how pathetic it was for its shortness, had this as a title: Things I Should Do To Forgive Porter In Three Weeks list. Simple and direct, non?

As previously mentioned, number one was to hate. For all intents and purposes, Tina was set into hating everything and anything about Bette Porter. Was this pointless? Maybe. Misguided? Perhaps. But, she really believed that the only way to purge hate out of your body was to fill yourself up with – fill it to the brim, push it to the limit – till your whole body tires of all the negativity and starts vomiting it out of your system. Fill it until it spills over and leaves. That’s what she told herself over and over again. She didn’t read this from any self-help book or watch it on Oprah; nope, she just made it up herself. Hey, she was bitter, angry and depressed – and she was entitled to make up her own rules as she went about coping with her grief. That’s just the way it is. But there was a tiny – but very significant hiccup. Her resolve was firm and she had her mind set on going through with the whole Porter haterade; but just like in anything else concerning MVP’s only daughter, her heart was having a hard time cooperating. Her mind had step foot on the scorned lover’s highway (to hell), while her heart was still dragging its feet by the door. Stupid love, Tina grumbled resentfully, chomping on a large piece of chocolate and chewing in a very unladylike manner.

And number two, her eyes shifted downwards to the next line. Number two was..

    Miss Kennard?”

A soft, melodic voice pulled her out of her reverie. Taking her head out of the clouds, she shifted her gaze from the notebook, up to the elegant woman standing near her seat, looking down at her with a kind smile. Long legs, killer physique, excellent bone structure and piercing blue eyes. If she were in her shoes, she’d be strutting her ass down a runway or working the camera under those hot Hollywood lights – not here, working her hands to the bone doing the bidding of rich snobs while they were thousands of feet in the air. “Yes?” Tina finally allowed herself to say, noticing that the woman was waiting for her to acknowledge her presence before she went ahead and said what she needed to say.

    1. My eyes bulge out of their sockets…WOW…54 pages. Wow, I can only bow in admiration. Thank you. On the story, both are having a hellion on the break time, man I am having a hellion on the break time and not even part of the story. I guess we havnet seen the last of the wannabe musician back. What happens next? ;)

    2. thanks alch…another brilliant update and i actually took a bathroom break just like you said lol. i’m just afraid that since this is a long update it might take you longer to write the next? hope not, looking forward to it.

    3. Thank you Alchy for such a wonderful and long read! You did a great job of weaving the scenes together. I love the Tina-Ken teasing, Bette – Sonja “recovery/addiction” moment, 3-step recovery for Tina, Sam/Bette’s conversation and the Tibette car. So very, very, very clever!!!! Ok…I sense that “Keith Arden” is somehow connected to a certain “Kate Arden.” Hm…looks like a black cloud on the Tibette reunion horizon. But…I cling to the hope that Ken’s almost secret sharing of perhaps an engagement is in the future. You know that small ray of hope is what is bringing your readers back!!!!! Get some rest Alchy…get your creative juices a break but come back real soon…we need our Alchy fix!

    4. Your story always satisfies, Alchemy. You get some of everything in here, and it’s all fab. I loved this chapter. Here’s hoping that Tina can stick to #3 on her list, and I hope Bette can do the same. Great, great update, Alchemy. Thank you! :)

    5. Brilliant chapter Alchemy – you always take such care with detail, emotion, characterization – amazing ;-) As someone said abt the previous chapter – one thing Bette still needs to learn is how to take Tina off that pedestal and treat her like an equal. Relationships mean sharing – both good things and bad – IMO that’s the biggest repair they need, the only truly important one. I loved seeing Tina & Ken again – what a great father daughter dynamic they have. I see Tina is still eating her pain, haha! The flashback was great and so was the bittersweet ending.
