Just The Girl 2.0 – Epilogue

One child in particular, had become quite infamous for possessing this unique mixture of angelic charm and devilish behavior in equally astounding proportions. This notoriously impish kid had quickly gained notoriety amongst the teachers and students alike – and believe me, in a place where this child’s brand of mischief was commonplace, the simple feat of standing out in the crowd was something quite remarkable.

And of course, creepy and kinda sinister.

    ——

The sandbox was the site of today’s main bout. There, a little boy held fort, surrounded by an assortment of plastic shovels, rakes and pails. While his usual playmates wreaked havoc at the jungle gym, he was all alone, lost in his own imaginary world, preoccupied with the daunting task of burying his battered Iron Man toy alive. His eyes would lighten up with every bit of sand that he dumped at the action figure,  his lips occasionally curving upwards with the briefest of sardonic smirks. Now that he had gotten over his short-lived obsession with the superhero, it was only fitting that he got rid of his miniature replica too. So deep was he in his own sadistic game that he didn’t notice a group of four determined girls stomping their feet towards his precious sandbox; well, up until their small frames blocked the sun and casted shadows over his kingdom of sand. The boy looked up, annoyed. He never did like it when other people so blatantly and disrespectfully encroached on his personal space.

“Hey Lucy..” The head of the pack greeted, the ends of her blonde pigtails blowing in the light wind. Behind her, her followers giggled, knowing just how simple name-calling can rile up the other.

“Don’t call me Lucy.” The boy frowned, taking the bait.

“But we like to call you Lucy..”

“My name’s not Lucy!” The boy growled, growing even more offended, his face burning a deep red.

“Ooooooohhhh..” The girls jeered, mocking their classmate. “Little Lucy is mad.” The blonde added teasingly. “We’re so scared.. ooohhhh… Lucy’s so scary..”

“I said stop calling me Lucy!” The boy shouted, his fingers clawing deep into the sand. Every single day, he had to take this kind of shit from the four girls. Every single day, the same kind of petty bullying.
