Just The Girl – Chapter Four (a HYD-inspired fic)
CHAPTER FOUR: It Begins
Homeroom started fifteen minutes ago. Yet in a deserted hallway on the first floor of Redwind Academy, a lone figure stood transfixed in front of locker number 910. Tina Kennard let out a long, drawn out breath as she stared at her unopened locker. She had purposely arrived in school late today. It was a big day for her, and she wanted to be alone when she saw that.. thing.. that she knew was to be hanging inside her locker. Deep inside, Tina held on to a tiny, tiny amount of hope that maybe, just maybe Bette Porter would see the error in her ways and propose a truce or something. Yeah right, Tina shook her head, that will never happen.
She ran a hand over her stomach and smiled a little as she felt the bumps beneath her uniform. She had sneaked off into her father’s room last night while he was sleeping and took the leather vest that he used for hunting inside his closet. She didn’t know if she needed it, but she just wanted to be sure. It didn’t hurt to be a little prepared. The vest was thick enough to give her the protection she desired, while at the same time it fit under her blouse and school jacket perfectly. She was thinking of bringing her cycling gear too.. with the helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and gloves.. but thought against it at the last minute, thinking it was too much and she’d end up looking all silly.
Breathe Kennard, Tina said to herself as she closed her eyes and concentrated on getting air in and out of her lungs. "You can do this." She whispered as she lifted a hand and placed it upon the combination lock. Her hands instinctively rotated the dial as she performed the combination that she knew by heart. She heard a small ‘click’ come from the inside and sighed. "Here goes nothing." She said quietly as she pulled on the handle and tugged the door open.
"I’m ready for you Bette Porter." She looked inside her locker and smirked. "It’s on."
————————–
"A red tag!!!" A sophomore shouted at the top of her lungs as she ran through the hallway. "Christina Kennard from 4-B got a red tag!!!"

So my heart is broken that after Tina protected her Dana turned into a coward who didn’t stand by her friend. However, I am glad to see Tina refuse to break in front of egomaniac Bette. Hopefully too much damage won’t occur between the two.
Well after 7 months of silent reading, I finally feel compelled to comment! This story is awesome, can’t wait to read more!
i have to agree lauraMP, ive only commented once before and i’ve read this fiction for a couple of years but i’m loving this!! It’s hard to hate bette even when she’s as nasty as this – love the sparring between the two though…keep it coming!!
nice school… where are the teachers… and those other kids… what the hell is up with them… at least jenny stayed her friend… now dana is the strange one… but it does look like bette has met her match… PPS
Tina is awesome and you go girl!
I love this feisty Tina! She literally drove Bette down to her knees!
