    Kit and Melvin

Kit was cautiously hopeful that she was witnessing a cathartic moment in her father’s life. He seemed truly remorseful and even after he’d gained control of his emotions she sensed a remarkable change in his character. Kit was a benefactress by nature, and as such she’d suffered many setbacks in her life by putting her trust in unworthy people, but every now and then her faith paid off.

People did have the capacity to change if it was in their hearts to do so; after all she was living proof. She decided to give Melvin the benefit of the doubt, but she wasn’t letting him off the hook easily. She wanted answers, especially about what had become of her son David but she didn’t want to push him. He could still turn on her, and throw all her transgressions in her face to excuse his own behavior.

Kit offered to spend the day with Melvin since his plans with Bette had gone sideways, but she wasn’t much into the whole Disney Hall concert thing, and Melvin certainly wasn’t in the mood after his emotional breakdown. Kit knew Bette wouldn’t care about losing the money she’d paid, but saw no reason for the tickets to go waste. She excused herself leaving her father alone in her office while she went to talk to her staff.

Her early morning kitchen crew was coming upon the end of their shift, so she asked if anyone was interested in using the tickets. One of the dishwashers, Robert Gonzales who worked part-time while attending college said he would love to take his mother. It just happened that it was her 50th birthday and this would be a perfect gift. He offered to pay, but Kit refused any money and in fact gave him permission to leave early so he would have time to get ready and pick up his mom.

Before leaving the kitchen, Kit spoke to the head chef to let him know she was taking the rest of the day off. He told her not to worry, everything was under control. They had received their daily deliveries of fresh fruit, meat and vegetable from the local markets and butchers. Everyone was briefed on the specials of the day and they’d already started prepping the lunch and dinner menus.

    1. Great chapter. Happy that Melvin is finally seeing the error of his ways. If you will remember when you started this, I had serious doubts that you could make a decent man of Melvin. You now have my most sincere apologizes because you have done what you set out to do. At least he is starting to come around in his thinking and that will be a wonderful thing for Bette and Tina to witness and to feel his love and acceptance rather than his wrath and intolerance. Kit did a fantastic thing making him understand how much his intolerance
and stubbornness hurt Bette and Tina. Great job. Thanks for posting.

    2. Morning, you was truly missed! I agree with every word of Dainty also! I can’t wait for Kit an old Mel to show up at the dinner. We all know Bette will show her ass on her father at first then Kit will calm her down. Tina sure as hell is going to be in shock when he calls her Tina instead of Miss Kennard. Can you please post again TODAY!! Thanks and pps

    3. In the show scripts the writer’s spelled his name, Melvyn, just a FYI. Great chapter! Kit is such a sassy character to write, with her unusual power over Bette that’s always interesting to explore, as is the shadow that Melvyn has over her. The deep psychological motivators that trigger character’s unconscious behavior always making them realize, far too late, why they did what did.
