LENOX HILL HOSPITAL-12
Tina quickly moved away from the entrance, Bette was wearing a casual tracksuit, Tina had already seen her in the hospital many times with that gray suit but at that moment her expression was more of concern.
With a dry throat Tina watched Bette slowly enter her apartment, the brunette’s shoulders were low, her gaze dazed, mixed with fear.
”Are you okay?” Tina said without being able to hold back any longer when their eyes met.
”I…” Bette couldn’t formulate anything sensible, she put her hand on the bridge of her nose shaking her head slowly ”I… I don’t know.” It came out sincerely.
”Is it the heart? It’s….” Tina began to get agitated.
”It’s the loneliness.” Bette sped up her answer closing her eyes to learn what she had said ”I had been there for two years now and when I tried to turn off the lights I….” a tear ran down her face and that was enough for Tina to start breathing again.
In a second Tina was in front of Bette with her hands on the sides of her face kissing her on the lips, urgently, Bette’s bag fell to the floor released from her grip as she grabbed Tina’s waist. They stopped to catch their breath remaining very close, Bette rested her cheek against the blonde’s breathing heavily.
Tina never let go of her shoulders, holding them possessively as she inhaled her woman’s scent.
”you told me to go away…that I have to think about Angie, I…I didn’t want to leave you…” the blonde whispered.
”because it’s right that you’re with her…I’m the one who’s out of control…” Bette looked at Tina and then took a few steps away looking around, finally taking in what was Tina’s home, her sanctuary. ”I was wrong” she whispered.
”no baby, please listen to me…it’s what I want too, I didn’t want to leave you, it was the first night I should have known it would be hard…I shouldn’t have listened to you.” Tina remained distant as she tried to get Bette to adjust.
”we just need each other…” Tina whispered her warm voice to Bette’s ears ”there’s nothing wrong with that.”
Bette closed her eyes as Tina moved closer to her ”it’s the same for you, I know…please tell me.” Tina’s words were now a plea mixed with the emotions that were about to overwhelm her.
