Let It Happen – Chapter XIV
“Oh…so, that wasn’t going to be a problem, after all. What was I thinking?” she tapped herself jokingly on the side of her head with an open palm.
“But, what about that irregular heartbeat thing, “ Tina asked, a little worried, “should Bette look into that? See a heart specialist or something?”
Liz nodded her head. “Yeah, I’d suggest that.”
“What do you think, baby? Should you make an appointment with Gina, ask her to set you up with a specialist?”
Bette, tipped her head slightly, saw the worry in Tina’s eyes, and responded, “ ok, I’ll do that. Maybe when I get back from Milan week after next, I’ll make an appointment, and take it from there. I’m sure it’s nothing, right Liz?”
She didn’t want Tina to worry unnecessarily about her. She felt perfectly fine.
“Well, we don’t know Bette. So it’s a good idea you have it checked out.”
Liz clapped her hands. “Okey-dokey. I think we should get some paperwork together, and start planning this thing. First: have you identified a donor, yet?”
Bette nodded her head, “Yeah we talked to Marcus. He’s a good friend, and agreed to do this. I think he can come by on Wednesday.”
Liz nodded, “Perfect. Just let Julie know, and we can put that on the schedule. Is one of you bringing him here? Or…”
Bette nodded, “Yeah, I am.”
“Alright, good, good,” she was writing notes on their file.
“Next…timing. When do you want to do this?
Bette and Tina were silent, looking at each other, then looking at Liz.
Bette answered slowly, “We haven’t really decided on a schedule, yet. We have time, right?”
“Yeah, yeah, of course you have time. We’ll just be freezing Marcus’ donation, anyway. I just wanted to check in with you about whether you’ve made any decisions about when, etc.”
They shook their heads simultaneously, then looked at each other, and smiled. They were silent, reading each other’s thoughts.
Tina bit her lip, then considered the clear, unambiguous love shining out from Bette’s luminous brown eyes. In Bette’s eyes Tina thought she saw a future unfolding for the both of them. She shook her head slightly, and thought back to what made her choose Bette, in the first place.
Just like that moment in the Ferris wheel, Tina thought that her fears were holding her back, and if she let her fears continue to do so, she’d keep postponing decisions like this, let this unexplained aversion to finally cast her lot, her fate, and her future with someone who loved her, win the internal battle still raging inside of her, and, perhaps, risk losing that someone. Why risk losing her? Why, Tina? She asked herself. Her fears said there was every reason to give in to fear. They were busy; they hadn’t found a place yet, etc., etc.

Please correct (for future writing) the use of the word every for
the correct word….ever! This error pops up frequently in your
otherwise wonderful stories.
For example….this page…in the question…”does it every bother you…”
instead of the correct…”does it ever bother you”.
