“I didn’t turn my back on anything Bette,” Tina replied evenly. “I could see that we were falling back into our same old destructive patterns and I needed to break away from that. I needed something boring and predictable for a change. And I found it. But inevitably I got bored with how predictable it was.”
“I knew you would,” Bette spoke before she thought.
“Because you know me so well?” Tina asked, eyebrows raised.
“No, because even if you are somehow meant to be with a man, it wouldn’t be with someone as bland and suburban as Henry was,” Bette said honestly.
“Why is it that we rail on about ‘you can’t help who you fall in love with’ to justify being with a woman, but the moment a woman identified as a lesbian ends up in a relationship with a man, there’s no way to explain her actions short of insanity?” Tina’s frustration was coming through loud and clear.
“I didn’t say it was fair Tina,” Bette said. “That’s just the way it is.”
Tina released Bette’s hand.
“I should go,” she said. “Thanks for…today. I loved it.”
She moved past Bette towards the master bedroom. Bette reached for her wrist before she’d progressed too far.
“I loved it too Tee,” Bette whispered. “It scares me how much.”
Tina turned and weighed her options before succumbing to what she wanted.
“Just a quick kiss?” Tina asked tentatively.
Bette pondered this request. What harm could one kiss do? She’d certainly been known to sleep with women and not even interact with them again. A certain New York bar pick up came to mind.
“Okay,” Bette replied.
They both shifted to face each other. Tina took a step closer and placed her hands on Bette’s shoulders while Bette’s hands found their way to Tina’s waist. Their noses brushed together as they both moved to make eye contact.
“Sorry,” they both apologized simultaneously. Then they smiled.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve kissed you,” Bette said. Tina thought she could detect a trace of apprehension in her voice.
“You haven’t changed your mind have you,” Tina asked.
This time intentionally, Bette brushed her nose against Tina’s. Her lips barely grazed Tina’s as she moved, but her hands also swept down to rest against Tina’s butt.

I certainly remember this story and I love it more now. Thanks for updating the language so the profane language is present. It’s not that I am a complete potty mouth but let’s be realistic. Several of the stories that have transferred over have blanks or asterisks instead of the actual language. In my opinion, when this happens, the stories lose some of their authenticity and the characters lose their edge. I realize that it takes effort to fill in the blanks especially in longer stories. So thanks for doing that.
I find stories harder to read with the asterisks inserted…it’s like a jolt of reality interfering with my escapism. I had to get to the task of editing them out. I do plan to work on more stories; some easier than others because of where the files are. This story was first posted almost 10 (!) years ago, so the digital file was more challenging to retrieve. I’m not much for cursing, but the occasional well placed F-bomb can really get someone’s attention.
@JKS I can’t believe this story is almost 10 years old! It reads now as fresh as it did then. I really love your stories because they are so well written with realism, humor, sarcasm and authenticity. It also helps that for us ORs (Original Readers), it follows canon for the characters and storylines. :-)
