    Lightning Crashes – 7

Bette: What am I gonna do with these people, Shane?

    Shane: Which ones?

Bette: Well, my boss for one thing.  Phyllis is starting to overboard with her infuation with Jodie.  And Jodie’s not exactly trying to deflect her away, either.  This could be bad, Shane.

    Shane: How so?

Bette: Shane…Phyllis is married.  And she’s my boss.  And it could get ugly.  Don’t get me wrong, Jodie’s a wonderful person…very beautiful…very artistic.  She’s deaf, so I’ve been learning how to speak in sign so we can communicate better.  But…eeghhh…this could cause all sorts of problems.

Shane: Maybe it won’t.  They’re adults.  They can figure out something.

Bette: Yeah…I’m pretty sure if Tina were here, she’d be telling me, "Bette…you shouldn’t worry so much.  It stresses you out."

Bette closes her eyes as the mood is now somber.  Her voice begins to shake.

Bette: God, I miss her…  Every night…every night, I stay awake hoping she didn’t hate me.

Shane: Tina could never hate you.

Shane slides her body behind Bette’s, wrapping her around Bette’s waist as Bette looks down, wiping away a tear.  Shane pulls her back against her.

    Shane: Bette, listen to me…

The pain is evident in Bette’s face as the tears stream down.

Shane: Tina loved you.  All of those friends on that jet loved you.  And Bette, your next door neighbors…including me…we love you, too.  There’s no way you could ever be hated.  Ever.

Bette’s breath shivers as she cries.

Shane: I know it sucks…and I know you’ve lost so much…but no matter what happens, you still have me.

Bette turns her body to her right side, leaning against Shane, who continues to hold her, her own tears falling.

    Bette: …Don’t leave me tonight…

Shane: I’m not Bette…I’ll be right here as long as you need me.

Bette tries to force a laugh through her anguish.

Bette: You could be here a while…

She smiles, as much as it hurts.  Shane leans in and whispers to Bette’s lips.

    Shane: I don’t mind…

Shane kisses Bette’s forehead and brushes some of her hair back from her face.

Next door, Lara has returned home.  She has Paige’s number, which causes her to smile as she sits on the couch.

"And just because I call you up
Don’t get me wrong, don’t think you’ve got it made
    I’m not in love, no-no
    It’s because…"

    1. Paige/Lara = cute, Carmen/Tasha = hot, Bette/Shane = O.oa Eh, maybe as a hook-up like that whole Lace (Lice! *ducks*) thing, just to deal with pain. Other than that I don’t have much to say. PPS!

    2. Lovin’ where you are going on this…or do I not really know at all? Hmm, Bette and Shane. This could work for me. Not that you need my approval, lol. I’m glad we both like the character of Lara, yay. Anxiously awaiting your next chappy….;)

    3. Bette and Shane, this could work especially now that Shane has calmed down. I like Tasha and Carmen and Paige and Lara. Altlhough Lara and Carmen could be great also. That just leaves Papi? Love how Tasha keeps Papi under control.

    4. Yeah, probably like Lara and Paige better than Paige and Shane, to be honest… as for the others, I’m getting some sneaking suspicions of pairings… don’t want to say anything… but I have some ideas… Intriguing, Kace.
