Lightning Crashes – Part 1 ( #TLW10 )
For Shane, she is pretty sure it is just the cocaine messing with her head. The sounds of sirens, the panic on Cherie’s face. There was only enough presence of mind to think, ”Are we about to get busted?” Shane then notices a strange trail of smoke leading out of the Pacific. It is a weird image that makes no sense to her or her much wasted state.
Northern California.
Bette is feeling exhausted and is in no mood for phone calls. Her cellphone rings and she notices that it is Joyce Wischnia. She is no mood to talk about this or explain herself in such an exhausted, manic state.
Antigua.
Peggy is inconsolable as she still holds the cellphone. Her body has become frozen in position as the sadness takes over. Marilyn does her best for Peggy, but realizes that things have become dire. It is time to go to Los Angeles.
Los Angeles.
Lara’s cellphone rings. She looks at it and then answers.
Lara ”Hello?”
She calls from her bedroom at the Morales home in East Los Angeles. Her voice is shaking which Lara is quick to notice.
Carmen ”…L…l-l-….Lara?”
Lara ”Hey, Carmen. Um…I was just thinking about you. Hoping you were okay.”
Carmen ”Oh my God…thank God. You’re okay!”
Lara ”…Not really, but thanks for asking. I’m just getting ready to leave.”
Carmen ”…Wait. Wait, what…?”
Lara ”I’m leaving, Carmen. I’m taking a job in San Francisco. This whole thing with Alice…”
Lara sighs.
Lara ”It just became one big mindfuck. …I’ve got a nice job waiting for me in San Francisco, so I took an early flight out of Whistler and came back to L.A. so I could gather my stuff and leave.”
Lara can only hear Carmen’s breathing. Something seems wrong.
Lara ”I know…the wedding was harsh. Shane’s fucked up for doing that to you.”
Carmen ”Oh my God…you don’t know.”
Lara ”…Know what?”
Carmen ”Um…they…they said on the radio. And now it’s on the news. Helena’s…Helena’s plane is missing.”
Lara ”How can it be missing?”
Carmen breathes deep, trying to contain her emotions.
Carmen ”…A crash was reported just off the coast here.”
Lara pauses, letting Carmen’s statement set in.
Lara ”No… No, that can’t be. That can’t be, Carmen.”
