The employees gather in the conference room as their boss, Donald informs everyone of the news.
Donald ”This morning, I learned of the death of one of our own. …The crashing plane that has gotten so much news coverage…as it turns out, one of our employees here was aboard that flight. The person was identified as Moira Sweeney. We knew this Moira, as Max Sweeney. And while the gender details may be a little confusing to us, ’Max,’ was still a good employee for his…brief time. I say, ’his,’ because that’s how Sweeney identified himself. I looked into it and have concluded that Sweeney was in the midst of a gender transition. Now…none of this matters to me. None of it. The only thing that matters was for the short time Max was here, we had a good, hard working employee. We are going to honor the memory of Max Sweeney. We will do that by continuing to work hard at growing our business. And we will do it with the same determination and the same positive attitude. I am already doing my best to get in touch with others affected by this tragedy about taking part in an upcoming memorial service. Are there any questions?”
Mitch raises his hand.
Mitch ”Um…so…do we say, ’in his memory,’ or, ’in her memory? Also…I could have swore there was a Moira Sweeney who applied for a job here.”
Donald offers a terse grin before speaking.
Donald ”I was going to speak with you about that after the meeting. However…since you wish to make a jackass out of yourself, I will say the following to everyone here. Perhaps it’s better that way. Granted, the news of the gender and the transitioning nature of which Max was obviously trying to keep to himself is still shocking. However…this is the Twenty-first Century. I think this is a good reminder that we live in times that are different from our childhood…myself, especially. There are people who are transitioning from female to male or vice versa, and yes it may be confusing to us…but isn’t to them. And sure, we can get into discussions and debates about biology, but it won’t change the reality of the situation. Also…we will be a little more considerate in the future when looking to hire more people. Perhaps had we hired, ”Moira,” when we had the chance, there would be no confusion over, ”Max.” We need to reexamine our own attitudes when it comes to gender, because quite frankly, Mitch…I am embarrassed by this. I am embarrassed by the fact that we turned Moira down. That you…turned her down, before I turned around and hired, ’him,’ as Max. I will not tolerate any form of sexism or discrimination along these lines again. So let this serve as a warning to all of you. If I task you with something important…you best well do it. And not let your petty little prejudices blind you from the objective. Also, Mitch…you’re being demoted. That’s all everyone. Let’s get back to work, and let’s do this for Max.”

so much going on in this chapter I know peggy identified Helena but has bette done the same with kit and tina are they all assumed dead and will there be any survivers pps
