    “Who’s it from?”

    “I don’t know, I didn’t recognize the number”

Bette retrieves her phone; she doesn’t recognize the number either. She places her Bluetooth to her ear as she waits to hear the message.

Bette, this is Sergeant Duffy, I need to arrange a second interview with you as soon as possible, just to clear up the time line of the evening for us. Please call me back to make arrangements.

Bette walks back into the kitchen, “It was Sergeant Duffy; she wants to set up another interview”

“Did she say what she wanted to talk to you about?”

“Something about the time line I gave them regarding everything that happened that night. I mean do they seriously believe that I can give them a minute by minute account of what I did that evening?”  Bette’s frustration in her voice not being lost on Tina, seeing a look of consternation on Bette’s face she walks towards her.

“Babe, I’m sure it’s nothing” placing her hands on Bette’s hips; wanting to quiet Bette’s insecurities, aware that this past week has Bette’s emotions all over the place. Bette was definitely not a fan of Jenny’s which was well-known to the entire group but Bette would never want anything bad to happen to anyone, regardless of her dislike of them.

Attending the funeral earlier that day had really taken its toll on the close-knit group of women. The stress had probably been the major factor of Max going into labor and certainly why Shane had finally cracked and lost her temper. Everyone had chosen to do their grieving individually; unlike when Dana had passed and they went to the waterfall together. Memories of that time for Bette and Tina were some of the most painful they had experienced in the history of their relationship.

“I just don’t understand why the police want to insist this was a homicide.”

The oven’s alarm buzzes; releasing her hands from Bette’s hips Tina returns to the stove, grabbing an oven mitt and removing the lasagna she had made.

“Smells good” Bette praises wanting to change their topic of conversation. “I’ll go get Angie washed up so we can eat”

Tina sets the table and pours two glasses of Chardonnay, placing the wine bottle in the ice bucket to keep it chilled. The Porter-Kennard family sits down to eat the delicious meal that Tina prepared for them. Angie totally lost in her own world as she entertains herself and her mommies at the same time.
