Love In Control – Chapter I – Savannah (Part 1)

“No, it’s not your fault, Rian. You’re right; they have pictures of me and my past girlfriend.  Sometimes, when I’m reminded of her, I can’t help but react a certain way …”  Aerin smoothly stood and gracefully walked to a nearby side-table, and then slipped on her black work-out jacket and pulled sweatpants on.

As she zipped up the jacket, Rian offered her a small smile. Aerin didn’t say anything else, but gave her a quick nod, and then indicated that Rian should start to stretch.  “Let me get Ed.”

    Okay, maybe later.

While she waited, Rian sat on the mat with her legs stretched out. She first bent a knee, crossing the bent leg over the other, outstretched leg, while twisting her torso in the opposite direction. I really hope I didn’t upset her or anything.

Aerin wasn’t wrong in noting that Rian was off. When she was less mindful of what she was doing, or when she got into a zone, and got lost in her thoughts, Rian guessed that’s probably when things like the thumping on the treadmill or loud running would happen. “This is why I prefer to work out at home,” Rian muttered under her breath, as she shifted leg positions.

But then that’s when I’m the least careful of what I’m doing, and that’s not good. As Aerin pointed out, it was a good thing that she’d decided to intervene just now on the treadmill.

“If you’re not careful, you’ll hurt yourself one day, Rian,” she continued to self-coach while she stretched. Why can’t I stop what’s happening to me between my ears, anyway? This thing about spiraling down a rabbit hole, when my thoughts tune everything out, and turn inward, able to break free of distractions… this is dangerous.  Why can’t I help but focus single-mindedly on that explosion, the rocket fire in the desert, when I let my thoughts roam? The irony is I don’t have all the details about what happened.  Not all the gory details, that is.  Why can’t I remember everything?  Psychiatrist says that’s normal.  Phew, normal!  Nothing about that mess can, in any way, be classified as normal.

Well… I can remember the sticky wetness of Jonah’s blood. For some reason, I can always remember that.  The horror of that.

    1. Where to start Skydancer……..? You’ve taken us on some wonderful journeys, introducing us to your alluring cast of characters. In addition to your version of Bette and Tina (which I absolutely adore), you’ve let us have a front row seat into the lives of Aerin, Harley, Jade, and Rian, each deep, rich characters in their own right. Now you’ve started us on this new, exciting journey with your ensemble cast, that will hopefully end with each in control of their loves and their destinies.

I hope that when Rian finds that switch to her spotty memories, she’s ready for the consequences. Like the saying goes, “Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.”

By the way, my mind is in overdrive with Bette at a golf course resort. Please make Bette, as she is in every other facet of her life, an excellent golfer with a low handicap. The differing sets of tees and handicap system combine to make the game an even playing field no matter the player or the location. In my opinion, there’s nothing sexier than a woman who can conquer a traditional man’s game and put a cocky man in his place. Oh, and tight golf capris won’t hurt either….just sayin’.

I’ll be sure to grab the popcorn and a nice glass of Pinot Noir before reading your next chapter. Anxiously awaiting.
