Love in Control – Chapter X – Millenial’s Kiss (Part Two)

    “Bette! Bette!”

They were surprised to see Jia, on her crutches, moving towards them in a fluid pace. Rian and Rachel were walking slowly behind her, as if to observe how well Jia was managing.

“Thanks for the nice note. I do want us to meet …” Jia was saying, panting slightly as she continued to hustle towards them.

Bette motioned with her hand for Jia to slow down, as if to assure her that they would happily wait until the blonde caught up with them.

The brunette flashed her a warm and welcoming smile when Jia got within a few feet. “Hi, I’m Bette,” extending her hand.

    “And I’m Lea.”

Jia slowed and gave them a rueful grin. “I’m sorry about the drama back there….”as she firmly shook the offered hands.

“No .. please…” Bette waved her hand in the air, as if to brush off the apology. “We were just wondering, actually, what it was all about. Are you ok?”

Jia nodded haltingly and swallowed drily. “Yeah. Um … no big deal …”

Her voice trailed away at first and then picked up. “Anyway …I’m Jia. And I wanted to explain to you face to face why you find yourself talking to me, instead of with my grandparents, or my parents, or even my older brother, who is probably better known here in New York …” she paused as Rachel and Rian drew abreast of them. She turned just in time as Rachel drew her into a hug.

“You seem ok. Are you really managing all right?” Rian asked, as Rachel and Jia exchanged hugs. “Like I said earlier, I’ll be here until Wednesday. We can talk, if you’d like …”

Jia gave her a small smile, slightly teary-eyed. Earlier, Rian had somehow known exactly what to say to ease her anxieties, coaching her to the point wherein she could work on regaining her emotional balance. She leaned into the hug Rian offered after Rachel stepped aside. “I can just listen, or I can talk your ear off, whatever works better for you.” Rian whispered, and then leaned away from the hug.

Bette and Lea observed the three quietly.

Jia bit on her lip at first.

“So you’ll be here for a few days more?” she asked Rian, who nodded in response.

    1. What a nice surprise!

I missed this story and it has been a while but I truly enjoyed reading this chapter.

I look forward to the next update!

      Thank you for coming back!

    2. Happy New Year, Sky. What a great surprise to brighten a rainy day! Since the site has been slow lately, I was rereading your earlier posts. Thanks for posting.

    3. Hello! Happy New Year, too! It’s the year of the Rooster, and I’m told that it’s a year for love, but one shouldn’t be embarking on risky or new things (in love or with other things). It seems that this year, the advice is to stick to the tried-and-true. I dunno: sometimes that works. Sometimes it doesn’t. Anyway, by any measure, this will be an extraordinary year; it already has been full of surprises. Risky and new are kinda “baked-in” already. But there’s always room for love, right? Especially if the alternative is …. no love. Now, that’s just a sad world. Who wants to live in a sad world, huh? I have a feeling I’ll be writing more. If only to re-produce the moments of love this year that I’ll want to hang on to for just a bit longer. Be well, ladies!
