Love in Control – Chapter X – Millenial’s Kiss (Part Two)

Jia shut her eyes and swallowed.   “You can? Umm… thanks … thanks. ‘K. So, how… how can I … reach you?”

Rian pulled out her phone, giving Jia an encouraging smile as she tapped on an icon. “I think I can. I’ll send you a text when I’m sure. What number?”

As they continued to talk quietly, Bette pulled on Rachel’s elbow to pull her aside and asked quietly, “So what happened, exactly?”

“She nearly face-planted hard on the cement a while ago. Thankfully, Tiler caught her before she crashed …”

“Wow! Must have given her a fright? She still looks a little shaken.”

Rachel nodded slowly. “Gotta say we all were, when we saw her falling. Thank goodness that Tiler reacted in a snap and somehow pulled her in, to keep her from crashing to the ground. And after, that Rian somehow calmed things down, and seemed to know how to reach her. “

    “So her … um …”

“Yeah. The leg issue: that’s recent. Shark attack while she was sailing solo. Practicing for a regatta or something. She got caught in a bad swell, and then awful weather, she ended up in the water, the boat in pieces. And then the shark attacked, or something ….”

    “Oh no!”

“I know, right? I can’t imagine how she’s coping… I mean, if that had been me I’d be afraid of even looking at those creatures in the aquarium. But, y’know, earlier, it sounded like she’s managed to get it together, start a new career, move clear across the country, even… but I guess there are still some things that can happen that’ll remind her of what she went through, and maybe she’s …”

Bette pursed her lips, and mused aloud, “Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. But, if she’s not able to process those kinds of shocks, that’s probably an indicator of something. I mean, this sounds counterintuitive, but if you’ve gone through something, if you continue to depend on mental crutches even after a reasonable recovery period, that habit will get in the way of you being able to confront your darkest fears.”

Rachel swiveled around slowly to face Bette, surprised. “What’s that?”

Bette didn’t respond immediately, and was looking at Rian and Jia with a far-away look in her eyes.

    1. What a nice surprise!

I missed this story and it has been a while but I truly enjoyed reading this chapter.

I look forward to the next update!

      Thank you for coming back!

    2. Happy New Year, Sky. What a great surprise to brighten a rainy day! Since the site has been slow lately, I was rereading your earlier posts. Thanks for posting.

    3. Hello! Happy New Year, too! It’s the year of the Rooster, and I’m told that it’s a year for love, but one shouldn’t be embarking on risky or new things (in love or with other things). It seems that this year, the advice is to stick to the tried-and-true. I dunno: sometimes that works. Sometimes it doesn’t. Anyway, by any measure, this will be an extraordinary year; it already has been full of surprises. Risky and new are kinda “baked-in” already. But there’s always room for love, right? Especially if the alternative is …. no love. Now, that’s just a sad world. Who wants to live in a sad world, huh? I have a feeling I’ll be writing more. If only to re-produce the moments of love this year that I’ll want to hang on to for just a bit longer. Be well, ladies!
