    “Jesus T. you don’t have a clue do you?  I don’t pretend to know why Bette had the affair but I do know that it had nothing to do with her not desiring you or loving you.  I don’t mean this to sound cruel but I don’t think that “you” were the reason for it.  I know that it just about destroyed both of you but I also know that Bette was lost totally lost.”  Alice sighed, “Did you ever think that perhaps she went to Candace because she didn’t know where else to go?”

     

    “What the fuck is that supposed to mean Alice?” Tina yelled.

     

    “Did you guys talk about the baby the two of you lost?  Did you ever just cry together?  Bette never stopped long enough to show any kind of grief.  She thought that she had to be strong strong enough for the both of you.  Then she met Candace.  Candace showed her attention and affection and she didn’t have to pretend with her,” Alice said quietly.

     

    “Pretend what?  What the hell are you saying?”  Tina asked as she looked intently at Alice.

     

    “Pretend that her world was perfect, that nothing terrible had happened.  She tried to be strong for you Tina because she knew that was what was expected of her.  She expected it, we expected it and most importantly you expected it.  I am not

    making excuses for her, believe me  but I do believe that she lost herself totally during that time.  I would never defend what she did never.  I just think that there was so much more to it than you seem to think.  I know without question that Bette loves you with everything that she is and that she didn’t look for an affair.”  Alice looked at Tina and sighed, “Sex is just that Tina – sex.  What the two of you share is not sex it’s commitment, it’s connection and most importantly it’s making love not just having sex. 

     

    “That doesn’t change the fact that she cheated Alice.  She cheated and it damn near killed me,” Tina replied softly.

     

    “You haven’t been around her Tina.  You weren’t there when we put her to bed because she was so drunk that all she could do was cry.  You haven’t seen her not bother to eat, to go to work, to even to try and live.  She has punished herself so much for what happened you have no idea.” Alice said loudly.

    5. Tina finds it so difficult to forgive Bette. If she can’t then I’m afraid their relationship is doomed. Tina is never going to find someone that she loves as much as Bette or loves her as deeply. Forgiveness is a divine trait.

    7. Tina really needs to stop comparing herself and Candace. Asking Bette if she was a better lover..etc. Bette’s explained to Tina that the affair was never about her it was about her herself. Hope Tina finally hears what Bette is telling her about Candace. Tina needs to give Bette a break, she needs to really hear how much Bette loves her. Bette should let Tina show her how much she loves her. I think Bette’s afraid to let Tina make love to her…she’s afraid it may be the last time, especially, if things don’t work out. Thanks for the update.
