Matchmaker Alice challenge – I WILL SURVIVE
To herself, “Geese I wish those crush babies would go away.” Alice is busy looking at the song list that her producer has put together. Many of them are songs she only remembers from commercials which makes her chuckle. Thinking she’s going to have to crank it up a notch she cues up HALF BREED from Cher. A sure fire way to generate calls.
Alice continues to review songs of Cher thinking she could devote and entire hour to her, GYPSYS, TRAMPS & THIEVES, TAKE ME HOME, DARK LADY, I’VE GOT YOU BABE, when she hears a rap on her glass window. Looking up it’s her producer.
Alice mouths ‘What’ to him. He gives her the phone sign and then the number 3. Looking over to her phone board Alice sees all 10 lines blinking. Curious she plans on picking up #3.
Counting down the seconds Alice hits the switch, “OK lovely ladies we are back. Boy this must be a good topic tonight the lines are all jammed so let get to them shall we. Oh what a thrill which line to take. You know these are the toughest decisions of the day. Eny meany miney moe … lets see line 3 you’re the winner. Hello caller this is Alice P go ahead.”
“Uh Hi … I mean I’m not really one to call into a radio show but you got me going when you played your first song. Boy I haven’t heard that song in a while I use to play it all the time when I was low. It’s one of those songs that I have a lot of good memories associated with. I couldn’t help myself I had to call you and let you know it had me smiling too.”
“Well that’s the vibe we are going for here tonight. Would you mind sharing you memory with all of us” Alice asked wondering why her producer pointed this call out.
The woman on the other end sounded older than Alice’s usual caller but more importantly she sounded normal. Suddenly Alice got what her producer what trying to get across, all her other callers must be loony tunes and if she wanted to have any hope of being successful she needed more normal like this woman. “You know what why don’t we wait for you to answer that. We’ve got a commercial I forgot to play. Would you mind waiting a few seconds here?”

Very different and just perfect. Thank you for this.
BRAVO Jwet! Wow, what a most creative, different and enjoyable Alice matchmaker story! The power that music and song has in connecting us to one another as well as evoking strong memories and feelings is truly an amazing thing. Okay, and being a musician I’m a total sucker for pretty much all the songs you mentioned too :) I almost didn’t read this one.. so glad I did. And I’m actually good with you leaving the story where you did. It’s nice sometimes to let ones own imagination fill in the “rest of the story” instead of always having it spelled out. Thank you for sharing your story. Very heart-warming!
