“Something you want to talk about or share?”

“No, I need to sort things out for myself before I can share. I’ll go home and call my friend’s father, mr. Fairbanks.”

“So you’re not staying for dinner?”

“No I’m sorry Alice another time. You know what, I’ll come by one of these days during the week and make it up to you.”

Tima hugged Alice, kissed Danny and left.

When Tina got home she walked to her couch and called Dana’s father.

“Fairbanks speaking.”

“Hi mr. Fairbanks, how are you?”

Robert Fairbanks was happy to hear Tina’s voice but in between the lines he noticed something was wrong.

“Hey Tina, sweetie. Baby, Tina’s on the line. You want to talk to ms. Fairbanks first?”

“No, I called because I want to talk to you.”

Robert told his wife that Tina wanted to talk to him. She nodded, knowing that he would tell her how the conversation went. So she went on with what she was doing.

“Is everything alright? Today you spent with Danny, right? Everything alright with him and his mother?”

“They are alright. I spent a lovely afternoon with Danny at the park. It remembered me on my pregnancy and the baby I lost.”

“Ohh sweetie, I wished I could be there. But what is truly bothering you? Because you spent every Sunday with Danny and I never heard you mentioning your pregnancy………”

“Mr. Fairbanks, do you remember when you asked me if I was attrackted to women? I guess I am. I met this woman at the store. She is very gorgeous and only thinking about her gives me that butterfly feeling.”

“But Tina, that is wonderful news. You know we don’t mind if you love a woman, just as long as you are happy!”

“But that’s the point, I don’t know if the feeling is mutual. In fact I don’t even know her. I think she knows more about me than I do about her.”

“You said you met her at the store, right? What’s her name?”

“Yes, I met her last Thursday at the store. She’s new in the neighborhood. Yesterday I showed her around and we spent some time. But I had a hard time not touching her or……….”

“Kissing her…….sounds like you got it bad. But listen sweetie. It takes time, don’t rush things. Give her time to get to know you. Maybe she needs time to trust you and then she’ll tell you her story. Not everyone is so open and free as you are Tina. There’s nothing wrong with that. But some people need more time.”

“But she said, she felt at ease with me and I felt the same thing.”

“Well that is a good sign, it would be a bad thing if she didn’t.”

Tina talked for awhile with mr. Fairbanks and when she ended the call she was a little more reassured. She thought about what he said and then decided to call it a day. She changed, took a shower and went to bed.

In the middle of the night she woke up crying………She had this very bad dream……she was having a drink with Bette at a bar. They were having a good time, she told Bette that she had feelings for her and then Bette told her that she liked her as a friend but not more than that. Bette also told her that she wasn’t into women………

”It’s a just a dream Tina, it’s just a dream.” She kept telling herself. She tried to get back to sleep but she couldn’t. So by the time her alarm went off she woke up with a headache. When she walked into the bathroom and looked in the mirror, she had bags under her eyes. She didn’t want to call in sick, so she took a shower hoping that it would make her feel better. But it didn’t. She hoped she would see Bette again today. Only one look in Bette’s eyes would give Tina the certainty that her dream wasn’t true……..at least that’s what she was hoping for.
