“You did – though at one point your help consisted of opening peapods and helping yourself to two for every two you put in the bowl “

“I think coming from you Bette Porter that is the case of pot and kettle “

Angie looked puzzled

“When Bette and I lived together she was notorious for hovering around the kitchen looking for bits of food she could have – so don’t blame Angie for peapod theft because you would do the same “

Bette laughed “ Guilty “

She faced Tina and they smiled at each other

“Happy Days “ she said

Tina nodded “The best “

Tina touched Bette’s hand and squeezed it.

“Come on mommy “

Bette went into the kitchen and lent against the fridge and smiled. She had to keep pinching herself that Tina and Angie were really here in her apartment. It was a wonderful feeling to feel so close to Tina again – the two were talking a lot and they could both see that there was progress being made. They had talked a lot about their past problems and it was obvious that they were both guilty. Bette had never thought of Tina as being complicit in the ending of their relationship. Bette had cheated on Tina but she had never really thought that she was unhappy in their relationship for her to reach out to the first woman who had came onto her.

Bette sighed and got on with proving to Tina that she could cook.

It was almost 2pm when Bette came through to the living room – she had set the dining table and everything was just the way she wanted.

“Okay you two “ she said

Tina and Angie were sitting together – Angie was reading the cartoon section of the New York Times and Tina was deep in the media section.

“Great – I am starving “ Angie got up and walked across to the table

“I have placed you here Ms Angelica “ Bette said pulling the chair out with the cushion on

Angie giggled

“Thank you “ she said sitting down.

“Ms Tina “ Bette continued

Bette went into the kitchen and gathered two plates. She returned and placed the plates in front of her guests
