Tina walked across and took Bette’s hands

“You are one in a million Porter – thank you. You have been wonderful with her and with me even though we have utterly disrupted your life “

“My life needs a little disruption now and again “

“The beef smells gorgeous – and you have even prepared all the vegetables”

“Angie was my assistant – she’s really helpful “

“That’s because she is trying to impress you “

Bette laughed “Well I am impressed “

“BETTE ! “

“Sounds like she needs you “

“Well get your coffee and toast and you can help us “

“I better go “ Bette said smiling.

Tina could see that she was really happy to have them both here. It was early days but Tina was loving being back in Bette’s life. It also felt right that Bette was finally spending time with the child that was hers. Tina made herself toast, juice and coffee and carried them through to the living room. Bette was kneeling beside Angie and they were working together. Tina sat down and watched them. Angie started each round well when there were more squares to blast but as it got tougher with fewer squares Bette would quietly suggest what Angie should do. Angie was a quick learner and she was laughing as she made progress.

Tina had long thought that Bette would be a great teacher or tutor because of her enthusiasm and communication skills. Angie reached the end of a stage of the game and she looked round at her mother.

Tina got up and took her coffee with her. Bette got up

“I think I need to check on the meat – you looking forward to your lunch Angie ?”

“Yes – it smells great – I helped Bette with the vegetables didn’t I ?”
