Old Friends Chapter 24
Are you regretting that?
No, Betty. No regrets and I mean that seriously. Other than Catherine, Ive never felt as comfortable with anyone as I feel with you. That is worth too much to jeopardize for a lay.
Is that what I would have been to you, a lay?
You know the answer to that.
Yes, Alex, I do. In a different world, we might have been great lovers. As it was, we each were able to find the two most incredible women. I could never regret Tina and I know that you could never regret Catherine.
Looking back, I can honestly say that I have only one regret in my life. It is such a huge regret, though, that I think it exceeds a lifetime of regrets.
At some point, Alex, youve got to focus on all of the good years and stop focusing only on Catherines death.
I do focus on our life together. Believe me, I never forget how happy we were. Other than that one stupid crisis over turning 30, I honestly believe that we were always happy for the eight years we were together.
I envied you and Catherine. I never thought I would find what you had.
Well, you did. Now, dont ***** up again, Betty.
I never plan to make that mistake again.
I hope not. Id hate to have to come and kill you.
Not to worry, I think Tina would do it before you could even get here.
If you start ***** up, Betty, come to me. Dont let me push you away so far that you cant come to me for a verbal kick in the *****.
You do it so well.
It is a talent in which I take great pride. Alex acknowledged.
Bettes cell phone rang. It was Tina saying that she had finished her meeting with Oscar. Bette told her that she was at Alexs hotel and invited Tina to join without even bothering to ask Alexs permission; she knew she didnt need to do so. Tina said that she would come there, adding before the call ended, that she loved Bette: a sentiment that was echoed.

Finally, the truth will set her free. I’m glad she was able to open up, now maybe she’ll be able to work on the guilt to the point where she will no longer need to medicate herself. Thanks for sharing, and I’m looking forward to how Bette can be the supporting friend Alex deserves.
What a secret to carry around. Poor Alex. Thanks for putting Bette and Tina back together. I hope you let them put Alex back together.
