    Old Friends Chapter 26

    What do you mean.

Its just that Alex will get in to something that came and went ten years ago. I remember it wasnt that long ago that she discovered Celine Dion.

I remember that. She called us from Europe to ask if wed heard of her.

I know, but then she sent me an Andrea Boccelli CD before anyone in the states had heard of him. What can I say? My friend is an odd one.

Bette continued to search. Here it is. Its an old Peter Cetera song.

    Who?

He was the lead singer for Chicago. Alex really liked their stuff at one point.

Chicago? Tina said as she thought. Oh, Youre the Inspiration. Yeah, they used to play that at my junior high school dances.

Well, I suspect this song is just as old. Bette said as she set up the computer to play the song through the high quality speakers which were attached. She went and sat next to Tina as they listened to Alexs theme for Bette.

She lays her cards out on the table
She always gets what shes going for–and a whole lot more
Got the movers and the shakers
    Quaking inside their mohair shoes
After all theres nothing to lose
    (chorus)
    Cracking that whip
    Making her own decisions
    Taking no lip
    Living with no conditions

Theres only one thing that shes missing
She never tells anybody–shes missing it more and more each night
And though she cries when shes alone
By the morning shes ready to go
    Shes got the light

    Chorus

    Everythings fine
Just as long as they do it her way
    Living with style
    Shes got it all
Hail to the queen of the masquerade ball

And though she cries when shes alone
By the morning shes ready to go
    Shes got the light

    Chorus

    Everythings fine
Just as long as they do it her way
    Living with style
    Shes got it all
Hail to the queen of the masquerade ball

Wow Tina said after the song finished. She really does know you, doesnt she? Everythings fine just as long as they do it her way.

Yeah, that became her nickname for me for a while, The Queen of the Masquerade Ball. I guess it took one to know one, huh?

Before Tina could respond, Alex entered her hotel room to find Bette and Tina on the couch. We were using those snazzy speakers you have hooked up to your computer. Bette told her.
