    Talking, bad weather and going back to school

    CHAPTER 90 – 2 WEEKS LATER

    “Tina  – you should be asleep by now “ Kate opened the bedroom door and looked in at her daughter
    “I am not tired “
    Kate folded her arms “ You know at least  you are consistent – you have been refusing to go to bed on time since you started high school. In fact I don’t remember you EVER going to sleep on time “
    “I must have at some point “ Tina looked up from her book
    Kate walked into the room and sat on the bed “ Well you must have before kindergarten but I don’t remember that far back”
    “Well this is the last time you will have to remind me to go to bed before a new school year starts “
    “Who is going to get you out of bed when you start college ?”
    “Classes don’t start at silly AM time “
    “We had a law class when we were in the first year that started at 9am “
    “And you lived on campus and you could be still in bed at 8:30 and be in time for a 9am class “ Tina had heard this before
    “You have an answer for everything “
    “I am both my mother’s daughter “ Tina smiled
    “Yes you are – and the older you get – the more that shows “
    “Is that a good thing ?”
    “I am not always certain one way or another”
    Tina smiled “ You two would be mortified if I was as quiet as Bette”
    “Life would be calmer “ Kate replied “Since we got back from holiday I have been so caught up with the case that I am working on that I haven’t spent that much time with you. “
    “You missed taking me for my shirts and sweaters for school””
    “I know – I always used to love that day out with you”
    “It was okay – Bette made sure I didn’t go crazy and everything I bought passed your approval “
    “ I am sorry “
    Tina smiled and touched her mother’s hand “You know its okay – you have a career and you gave up so much time to take care of me  – you love what you do and now you don’t have to worry about me so much – you can be more obsessed about cases like mom “
    “I am always going to worry about you “
    “Yeah I know – its in the contract and mom has checked it and there are no loopholes or ways out “
    Kate nodded “I am becoming predictable “
    “Life with the Kennards is never predictable as Bette has pointed out “
    “I hope she was not put off ever going on holiday with us again “
    “Do you have something in mind ?”
    “Well Rosemary and I have been talking and we might all fancy going away up North in October – you two get a week off for half term around Halloween and we all might get a cabin up in the woods and do some long walking “
    “And some serious boozing ?” Tina questioned
    “Well – red wine is something that all of us like “
    “Would Bette and I get to stay home or come with the four of you ?”
    “You would be coming with us – three double bedrooms “
    “So you and mom have decided that we can have sleep-over’s ?”
    “There is no reason for us not to let you  – but this isn’t set in stone. Depends on how you behave “
    Tina nodded “It might shock you but I am grown up – well not entirely and I still have problems “
    “Problems don’t vanish just because you become 18 or 21 – you get different ones that’s all. How are you and Bette doing ?”
    Tina put the book down and nodded “We are good – there are a lot of things that we have to talk about and its not perfect but its good – its really good “
    “How are you doing with your self confidence. You know that we can understand tantrums if you don’t win. It doesn’t mean we think they are okay but you are our daughter as you often say. What I cannot understand is that you seemed so full of self doubt “
    Tina exhaled “I lost sight of things. I was so wrapped up with how afraid I was about Bette going to a different college than me – well I couldn’t see anything else. It is something that we are talking about – I know that talking about things does make them less scary. Nothing was more terrifying to me than Bette just announcing that she was going to Yale and I could go anywhere I wanted “
    “I hardly think that is Bette’s style “
    “I know and when I told her that was what I had been thinking – well she was really upset – she was hurt that I could think that about her. That took me a few days to make her see that it was my fear and it said more about me than anything to do with her. I was just projecting my fears onto her. And she doesn’t deserve it because you know how sweet is she “
    Kate nodded “She is a very impressive young woman “
    “I don’t think mom likes her “
    “Your mom likes her fine – and would you really care what we think of her ? For the record we both think she is lovely and she is a large part of the reason we have been able to accept the two of you as a couple. You two are good for one another “
    Tina nodded “We have started cycling – I got my old bike serviced and we have been going for rides in Central Park and finding cycle paths – its good because its something we can do together and its not really competitive – though she has challenged me to a race next weekend “
    “I thought she wasn’t competitive “
    “Don’t believe that – she is in her own sweet way – she doesn’t care about beating anyone but herself but I come second in who she likes to race “
    “That’s good “
    “And we are going to sign up to learn squash at school next term – there are a couple of courts and Bette has never played before “
    “Like she hasn’t played tennis ?”
    “Point made – she has promised me that she’s never played squash before “
    “Its good to win  – of course it is but there are other things that matter more  – like not messing up your relationship with your girlfriend because she is good at things”
    “I know that – and I don’t intend to mess up what I have with her “
    “Good – this is going to be a hard year for you – there will be homework coming out of your ears and you are seniors – that means responsibility. I am sure you and Bette are up for anything – just remember that you two have to communicate “
    Tina nodded
    “And the other really important thing is sleep – like getting plenty of it – otherwise you are going to be running on empty when it comes to beating Bette at squash and studying for your exams  – switch the light out and go to sleep “
    “Okay mom “
    Kate kissed Tina on the brow and left the room. Tina put a marker in her book and put it to one side. She switched the light off and lay in the dark for a few minutes until she picked up her phone and started to text Bette.

    2. Sorry to see you retiring from the site but as I have told you many times, I want to see your name on a book cover and now that will be happening. Congratulations that you have made that decision. As others have stated I am counting on relapses. And I will ask as well for more on the LWing, we have missed it. Whatever you write, you know I will read. You will be missed and again congratulations.

Great end to a great story.Have loved it from the beginning.So sorry you are retiring from Tibette but understand after eight years a break will be good for you.Like others we hope you have the odd relapse and come back to this site.Please keep us in touch with all your future writing.Would love to know where we will be able to read your new stories.I have come to love your stories over the past two years of trying to catch up with them all on this site.You have become one of my favourite authors and we will miss you on here but will catch up with you and Lord Rocky elsewhere.

L WING is one of my favorites fanfic ever, and is the reason for I find this site.I could read it every day (so far I’ve reread several times). While other writers have faded away due to thing or another, you’ve were a wonderful constant. Your stories were varied, interesting, dramatic and well thought out.
