“Never?” The blonde asked extremely surprised.

“Why does it come as a surprise?” Bette asked half amused.

“Because I thought… a woman of your reputation would…” But Tina stopped right after verbalizing those words, as she once again, fell in the trap of her own speech.

“A woman of my reputation” Bette quoted with a certain amount of agony in her words, for she knew that sooner or later that reputation would haunt her.

“I’m sorry Bette… I didn’t mean… I… I” Tina was stammering some sort of an apology.

“Who told you about my reputation?” Bette asked truly defeated and mimicing the blonde’s position. Sadness written all over her face.

“No one” The blonde tried to keep her source of information a secret and this time Bette’s eyes told her that she wasn’t gonna get away with it.

“A friend of mine” Tina finally admitted.

“And what did that friend tell you about me? If I may ask” Bette was trying to be polite and gentle, she was not going to let her past come in between the woman of her dreams and her.

“That you… have a lot of experience with women?” Tina asked more than said.

“Okay… here’s the thing” Bette started her explanation as she changed her position and sat on the bed, facing Tina and covered herself with a piece of the sheet. “I do have a past… Alice would say I have a very vast past. And it is true, I have slept with some women before Caroline. That’s when it stopped and after she broke my heart I realized that… all those clubs and bars were not what interested me anymore” Bette completed.

“So, she brought you stability” Tina said with a mixture of jealosy she wasn’t aware of just then. But Bette did notice it, as she had when that waitress had tried to flirt with her.

“Look I am not gonna discuss my previous relationship after I had the most amazing night of my life, with the most amazing woman I’ve ever met… but no, Caroline had nothing to do with it. I got tired of that part of my past. I realized that I wanted to meet someone who would just want to be with me for more than one night, who would want to hear what I had to say. A woman I could be myself around and viceversa…” Bette elaborated further, and every single one of her words were registered by Tina who had started the slow process of, once again, just melt.
